When BOMUL Samgyetang first opened its doors at CHIJMES late last year, it quickly drew long, snaking queues. We reviewed it then and were impressed by its expansive range of organic Korean ginseng chicken soups. Returning to this bustling establishment months later, the crowds have not waned, and the restaurant continues to charm diners with its warm service from founders Jackson and Brendon. The menu continues to be a hit with its commitment to quality, utilising only organic chicken delivered fresh daily.
However, a brand new sweet concept right next door proves that the brand is certainly not resting on its laurels.
Stepping into the familiar hanok inspired interior, we started with the Vitality Samgyetang. This particular bowl is brewed with aged black garlic, which lends the broth a deeply savoury and almost balsamic sweetness.
The dark and robust soup coats the tender organic chicken lightly, offering a comforting experience that feels instantly restorative.
We also had the Spicy Cure Samgyetang. For diners who enjoy a kick of heat, this variation elevates the traditional herbal broth with a warming spice blend that invigorates the senses without overpowering the sweetness of the premium Korean ginseng.
This brilliant concoction is guaranteed to break a sweat, flushing out toxins while providing a robust and satisfying flavour profile.
Beyond the soups, we sampled the Maesaengi Abalone Samgyejuk (S).
This slow cooked porridge is enriched with fresh abalone and nutrient rich maesaengi seaweed from the southern coast of Korea. The delicate winter seaweed gives the dish a beautiful ocean green hue and a velvety texture, warming the belly instantly.
The side dishes at BOMUL are far more than just afterthoughts, and the kitchen generously allowed us to sample a wide array.
The Minari Pancake (S) is a golden, crispy pancake that highlights the fresh brightness and herbaceous notes of Korean water parsley.
The Spicy Octopus and Prawn (S) features spicy stir fried seafood with vegetables in a punchy Korean chili sauce. The heat level is robust and unapologetic, contrasting brilliantly with the soothing broths.
We also shared the Smoked Duck Japchae (S), where bouncy sweet potato glass noodles are stir fried with vegetables and smoked duck in a savoury soy sesame sauce.
We washed this hearty feast down with a soothing cup of Honey Ginger Tea and Honey Jujube Tea at S each.
The most exciting update to the BOMUL experience, however, awaits just outside the main dining room.
To combat the residual heat of the soups and the sweltering Singapore weather, the team has launched the BOMUL Gelato Bar. Offering a concise menu of six flavours, it bridges traditional hanbang wellness with trendy dessert culture.
We treated ourselves to two servings at S per cup.
The limited time Dubai Double Black Chocolate is a key highlight, blending intensely rich dark chocolate with the delicate crunch of kunafa.
For a more delicate finish, the Chrysanthemum and Goji Berry flavour offers a floral, lightly sweet profile that feels like a refreshing palate cleanser.
If you are planning a visit, there is an excellent incentive on the horizon.
To celebrate the football season, BOMUL is running a FIFA Promotion dubbed “The Recovery Club” from 11 June to 19 July.
Available Monday to Thursday between 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM, diners simply need to quote “OPPA, I NEED GINSENG POWER!” to the staff to enjoy any two items from the full menu from S per person, making it the perfect excuse for a mid afternoon culinary escape.
