Therme Singapore Breaks Ground on Asia’s First Large Scale Integrated Wellbeing Destination

Singapore has taken a major step towards becoming a regional leader in wellness tourism and urban wellbeing with the groundbreaking of Therme Singapore, a landmark development set to open at Marina South in 2030. Developed by Therme Group, a global leader in large scale wellbeing destinations, the project will become Asia’s first integrated urban wellbeing destination of its kind, bringing together leisure, nature, wellness and social experiences under one roof.

The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister in charge of Trade Relations, Grace Fu. Spanning more than 720,000 square feet of gross floor area, equivalent to over nine football fields, the seven-storey development with a basement will introduce a new form of social infrastructure designed to serve people of all ages and backgrounds.

Therme Singapore will feature more than 20 indoor and outdoor pools and water bodies, alongside over 70 wellness treatment rooms. The visitor experience will be divided into three distinct zones tailored to different needs and interests. The Play zone will focus on active family experiences, including children’s pools, interactive play spaces and 18 water slides stretching more than 1.8 kilometres in total. The Relax zone will offer thermal pools, therapeutic mineral baths, hydromassage beds, infrared therapy and tranquil water environments designed for rest and recovery. For those seeking deeper wellness experiences, the Restore zone will house saunas, steam rooms and massage treatment spaces dedicated to physical and mental rejuvenation.

Complementing the wellness facilities will be more than 86,000 square feet of food and beverage offerings, providing visitors with a variety of dining and social experiences set against panoramic sea views.

Nature will play a central role in the destination’s design. The development will feature more than 200,000 plants representing over 200 species, including orchids and native Southeast Asian flora. These landscaped environments will enhance biodiversity while creating immersive green spaces throughout the indoor and outdoor areas of the project.

Beyond the main development, a coastal public park spanning almost four hectares will be established to connect Therme Singapore with Marina Barrage. The park is expected to improve public access to green spaces while enhancing the ecological and recreational value of the waterfront district.

Therme Singapore is being developed by Therme Group in partnership with Kajima Overseas Asia and designed by DP Architects together with Therme ARC, the group’s in house architectural team. Sustainability has been integrated into the project from the outset, with plans including energy efficient building systems, solar photovoltaic panels, smart irrigation technologies and climate adaptive landscaping strategies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and supporting local biodiversity.

Advanced technology will also play a significant role in enhancing the visitor experience. Guests will be able to use waterproof RFID wristbands for locker access and cashless payments, while a next generation robotic locker system will improve convenience and optimise space usage. Advanced ozone-based water filtration systems will also be implemented to enhance water quality and operational efficiency.

The project is expected to generate around 400 new jobs, spanning construction, engineering, facilities management, hospitality and operations. In addition to traditional hospitality roles, Therme Singapore will introduce specialised positions such as sauna masters, also known as Aufgussmeisters, who lead immersive sauna wellness experiences.

To support talent development and build industry capabilities, Therme Singapore has established partnerships with local Institutes of Higher Learning, including the Institute of Technical Education and Republic Polytechnic. Through internships, innovation projects, skills development programmes and employment pathways, these collaborations aim to prepare a future ready workforce aligned with Singapore’s broader goals of connecting education, industry and employment opportunities.

When completed in 2030, Therme Singapore is expected to become a major addition to the Marina South precinct.
