adidas Brings Back the Trefoil for FIFA World Cup 2026 With New Away Kits After 36 Years

adidas is celebrating a milestone moment in football culture with the launch of its official FIFA World Cup 2026 away jerseys, marking the long-awaited return of the iconic Trefoil logo to the world’s biggest football stage for the first time in 36 years.

Unveiled this week, the new away kits are designed for all 25 adidas partner federations, including 13 nations that have secured their place in the 2026 World Cup. Each jersey blends classic adidas World Cup design language with modern innovation, reinterpreting vintage elements such as geometric motifs and stylised vertical patterns through a contemporary lens.

A Return to 90s Heritage With a Modern Edge

The reinstated Trefoil, adidas’ emblem of originality, sits proudly on the right chest of every jersey, signalling a nostalgic nod to the brand’s rich era of 90s football culture. While heritage inspires the look, the kits are fully reimagined to meet today’s performance standards, celebrating the communities, fans and athletes who define each nation’s football identity.

Every design subtly reflects its home country, incorporating nods to iconic landscapes, meaningful dates, architectural shapes and local artistry. The result is a collection that feels both deeply personal and globally unifying.

Engineered for the Demands of a Three-Nation World Cup

Beyond aesthetics, the jerseys are built with adidas’ latest performance-driven technologies to support elite players competing across the diverse climates of the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Key features include:

  • Body-mapped 3D engineered fabrics for targeted stretch
  • CLIMACOOL+ technology to improve sweat-wicking in warm-weather matches
  • Lightweight jacquard construction for improved mobility
  • Herringbone-stitched 3-stripes on the shoulders to enhance breathability and ventilation

Together, these innovations ensure the kits maintain comfort, airflow and durability under pressure.

A High-Energy LA Launch Party Inspired by Football Culture

To kick off the global reveal, adidas transformed the Lower Grand Tunnel in Downtown Los Angeles into an immersive celebration of sport, style and street culture. Athletes, creators, musicians and cultural icons gathered for a high-octane launch event that turned the tunnel, normally known for traffic jams, into a neon-lit football street festival.

The night included performances by Kaytranada and Baby Keem, adding to the electric atmosphere as the new away kits were unveiled to the world.
