[Review] Guzman y Gomez Introduces NEW Caesar range to Singapore

The hustle and bustle of a Singapore lunch hour usually means hunting for something that is both quick and actually satisfying. For those of us with a Guzman y Gomez (GYG) near the office, the sight of a long queue is a familiar one, yet it remains a popular choice for the local crowd because of its consistent speed and fresh ingredients. This month, the Mexican chain is giving us a reason to skip our usual order with the launch of their new Caesar series.

Already a hit in Australia, it is now a permanent addition that brings a modern, Mexican inspired innovation to a salad that is said to have its roots in Tijuana, Mexico, back in 1924.

We spent some time working through the new menu, starting with the Regular Caesar Burritos (from .20). While most burritos are heavy on rice and beans, this version completely removes them, replacing that bulk with a massive hit of crisp Australian cos lettuce and house made corn chips.

The Grilled Chicken version uses 100% flame grilled meat that adds a smoky depth to the creamy, proprietary Caesar dressing.

For those who prefer a bit more bite, the Grilled Steak filling provides a hearty, savoury alternative that pairs well with the zingy pico de gallo tucked inside the soft flour tortilla.

If you are looking for something heavier, the Mini Caesar Cali Burrito (from .20) is the way to go. It takes everything from the standard Caesar burrito and stuffs it with GYG’s iconic chipotle seasoned fries.

We tried this with the Grilled Chicken and the Pulled Shiitake.

The shiitake is an interesting vegetarian option, offering a tender, rich texture that rivals meat fillings.

For a lighter desk lunch, the Regular Caesar Salad (from .70) offers a bit of interactive fun.

The “shake it to make it” concept is more than just a gimmick; giving the bowl a vigorous toss ensures the freshly grated Jack cheese and crushed corn chips are perfectly coated in that signature dressing.

We tested both the Grilled Chicken and Grilled Steak options here, and the freshness of the Australian lettuce really shines when it is not wrapped in a warm tortilla. The lettuce is specifically flown in to ensure it maintains a crunch that many fast food salads lack.

For a sweet ending, we had Churros. At GYG, these are fried to order and rolled in a coating of cinnamon sugar. They serve them with an indulgent dulce de leche dipping sauce that provides a sweet, caramel finish to a spicy meal.

Whether you are grabbing a quick bite between meetings or ordering via the GYG app to skip the line, this new range proves that “clean” fast food doesn’t have to be boring. With the brand soon expanding to its 23rd location at Dunearn Village, it is easier than ever to get your Mexican fix across the island.
