Tucked away in the quiet streets of Duxton, Cat Bite Club is the kind of hidden gem you might walk past if you were not looking for it. From the outside, it looks like an unassuming cafe, but when you step inside and pull back the curtains, you are greeted by a whole immersive bar experience.
Every corner of the space is carefully designed around the cat theme. From the decor to the merchandise, even the glassware, it all celebrates the playful and mischievous spirit of cats. It is fun but still sophisticated and the space has a lively personality without feeling overwhelming.
The bartenders here are really friendly and approachable. They go the extra mile to interact with you, explain the drinks and teach you about the different spirits. I appreciated how much effort they put into making the experience personal.
The cocktails are just as interesting as the space. The bartender told me they want every drink to feel out of this world and to give guests an exciting experience beyond usual cocktails. On my visit, we tried four drinks: Smoking Apple, Straight Outta Scallion, Ube Noir and my personal favourite, Puss in Boots.
Smoking Apple looks very unassuming in the glass, almost like an ordinary apple juice, but it is actually strong and full of flavour. It has an unusual medicinal note that lingers and gives it a complexity that I did not expect.
Ube Noir is smooth and creamy with subtle nutty undertones from black sesame and rum. The ube and coconut flavours give it a soft sweetness that is gentle and approachable. I found it easy to sip and comforting without being too heavy.
Straight Outta Scallion is probably the most adventurous of the lot. It comes with freeze-dried scallion crackers and drinking it is like eating a liquid scallion pancake. I have never had a savoury cocktail before and this one is surprisingly balanced and fun. It is perfect for anyone looking to try something completely new.
Puss in Boots is the highlight for me. Served in a cat paw glass, it is playful and inviting. Made with Espolon Blanco and Herradura Añejo tequila, guava, maple, cinnamon and a milk wash, it is sweet and easy to drink. The flavours are clarified so each note comes through clearly.
The bar bites are worth a mention too. The three cheese quesadilla is incredibly comforting and savoury, with an insane cheese pull that makes it so satisfying. It pairs really well with the cocktails.
The tortilla chips and guacamole are super creamy and refreshing, with chunky avocado giving it a bright, light flavour that balances the richness of the drinks.
