ART SG and UBS have announced the recipient of the inaugural ART SG FUTURES Prize, presented by UBS, at ART SG 2026, marking a significant milestone in their shared commitment to championing emerging artistic talent. The first-ever prize was awarded to Filipino-Canadian interdisciplinary artist Marigold Santos, who received USD 10,000 in recognition of her outstanding work within the fair’s FUTURES sector.
The FUTURES sector highlights newly created works produced specifically for ART SG by rising artists, represented by young galleries established within the last ten years. With a strong selection of compelling presentations, the jury faced a challenging decision. The winner was selected by a distinguished panel comprising Alessio Antoniolli, Director of Triangle Network; Venus Lau, Director of Museum MACAN; and Khim Ong, Director of Collection, Public Art & Programmes at the Singapore Art Museum.
Beyond the prize presentation, UBS returns as Founding and Lead Partner of ART SG for the fourth consecutive year, presenting a diverse range of programmes and artworks. Open to all visitors, the UBS Art Studio features Indonesian artist Melati Suryodarmo’s I Love You (2007), an intense five-hour performance captured on single-channel video and performed live on 22 January.
The work marks UBS’s first presentation of a performative piece at ART SG, as well as Suryodarmo’s debut performance at an art fair. The video documentation of the performance will remain on view at the UBS Art Studio throughout ART SG 2026, offering fairgoers an opportunity to engage with the work beyond its live moment.
In line with UBS’s “Art for All” initiative, the UBS Art Studio also hosts a community-focused sustainability activity. Visitors are invited to craft messages of love and create heart-shaped keychains using recycled plastics collected from UBS’s in-office programmes, in collaboration with local sustainability startup Plastify. The initiative complements Suryodarmo’s presentation while reinforcing UBS’s commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.
The UBS Art Studio presentation extends into the UBS Lounge, which showcases Closer, a curated selection of multimedia works from the UBS Art Collection by 13 international artists. Spanning painting, photography, sculpture and video, the exhibition explores themes of intimacy, vulnerability and human connection.
Featuring both recent acquisitions and established works, Closer examines personal relationships within broader cultural contexts, touching on motifs such as familial bonds, romantic love, the human form, nature and inclusion. The presentation includes works by Asuka Anastacia Ogawa, Anne Samat, Pinaree Sanpitak, Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Farah Al Qasimi, Anne Collier, Sylvie Fleury, Sarah Lai, Lee Kit, Ma Qiusha, Zanele Muholi, Christine Ay Tjoe and Melati Suryodarmo.
