Ant International Unveils World’s First Iris Authentication for Smart-Glasses Payments with Alipay+ GlassPay

Ant International has taken a bold step in augmented reality commerce by introducing iris authentication to its AR glasses-based payment solution, Alipay+ GlassPay. Developed in collaboration with leading smart glasses manufacturers Xiaomi and Meizu, this innovation enables users to complete transactions with a simple glance, offering enhanced security, convenience, and immersion in the shopping experience.

A New Era of Multi-Modal Biometric Security

Alipay+ GlassPay already integrates AI-powered voice recognition and voiceprint authentication, and the addition of iris scanning strengthens its multi-modal verification capabilities. Successfully tested on AlipayHK, the iris authentication feature now allows merchants and service providers to deliver seamless, secure, and interactive consumer experiences using smart glasses.

Iris authentication stands out for its resistance to spoofing, relying on over 260 biometric feature points for precise user verification. Advanced imaging algorithms and liveness detection ensure accuracy under varying lighting conditions and protect against fraud attempts using photos, videos, or 3D masks. The solution also integrates a comprehensive security suite, including personal encryption keys, to safeguard sensitive user data while complying with regional regulations.

Smart Glasses: Bridging Physical and Digital Commerce

Smart glasses are emerging as the next frontier for interactive retail and experiential commerce, combining instant try-ons, simplified checkout, and augmented reality experiences. Industry estimates project that consumer adoption of smart glasses could grow nearly sevenfold between 2024 and 2029, reaching 18.7 million units globally.

Powered by Ant’s gPass, the world’s first trusted connection framework for smart glasses, Alipay+ GlassPay enables device manufacturers and developers to build secure AI-driven applications and innovate new use cases. As AI and AR integration expands, gPass ensures that users benefit from both convenience and safety on their smart devices.

Unlocking New Opportunities for Merchants

The enhanced Alipay+ GlassPay not only boosts security but also opens new engagement and growth avenues for merchants. From offline try-ons to instant online purchases, smart glasses help streamline transactions, reduce logistics costs, and improve omni-channel management. Consumers can use the devices for activities like hailing rides or exploring products, seamlessly linking physical and digital experiences.

Global Reach and Future Prospects

Alipay+ currently connects over 1.8 billion user accounts across 40 mobile payment providers to more than 100 million merchants in over 100 markets. With one integration, partners gain access to Alipay+’s growing suite of tools, including QR-based and NFC payments, as well as AI-driven fintech features via the Alipay+ GenAI Cockpit.
