IES Marks 59th Anniversary with Engineering Awards, Scholarships and Tech Innovations, including the Launch of the IES60 App

The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) celebrated its 59th Annual Dinner last night, under the theme “Engineering Our Singapore Together”, highlighting the crucial role of engineers in building a sustainable and innovative nation. The event, attended by over 1,100 guests from government, industry and academia, was graced by guest-of-honour Mr Chan Chun Sing, Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence.

As Singapore commemorates SG60, IES also marked the start of its own 60th anniversary journey, reaffirming its commitment to nation-building through innovation, professional excellence and strategic partnerships. During the evening, Minister Chan witnessed the launch of two major initiatives: the IES60 App, Singapore’s first institutional app with integrated CRM for seamless engagement, and the IES–SG60 Commemorative Booklet, chronicling six decades of engineering milestones that shaped the nation.

Er. Chan Ewe Jin, President of IES, said: “Engineering has always been at the heart of Singapore’s progress. As we approach IES60, we renew our resolve to empower engineers to build a greener, smarter and more resilient Singapore.”

Minister Chan Chun Sing added: “Engineers play a vital role in building Singapore’s future, from our infrastructure to technology and sustainability initiatives. Tonight’s celebration not only recognises their past contributions but also inspires the next generation to continue innovating for our nation.”

The dinner also honoured distinguished engineering leaders. Professor Lim Siong Guan received the IES Lifetime Engineering Achievement Award 2025 for his 50-year public service career, while Mr Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, was conferred the title of IES Honorary Fellow for his contributions to advancing engineering in Singapore.

The IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards 2025 recognised seven outstanding projects ranging from sustainable rail infrastructure and smart street lighting systems to autonomous patrolling robots. The IES Sustainability Awards highlighted innovative approaches in environmental stewardship, including breakthroughs in bio-methanol production, self-healing interactive fibres, and sustainable construction materials.

Enterprise Singapore received the IES Outstanding Partner Award 2025 for its long-term collaboration and impact on Singapore’s engineering standards.

In line with nurturing the next generation of engineers, IES presented its inaugural student scholarships to six recipients across university, polytechnic, and ITE categories, alongside two IES–Yayasan Mendaki scholarships for high-achieving Malay/Muslim students:
