42 Heritage Businesses Honoured for Preserving Singapore’s Cultural Legacy

A total of 42 iconic heritage businesses were recognised as awardees under the inaugural National Heritage Board SG Heritage Business Scheme, celebrating their role as cultural and community anchors. The awards ceremony, officiated by Guest-of-Honour Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo, brought together heritage business owners, partners and the public to honour the diversity of businesses that shape Singapore’s cultural fabric.

Launched as a pilot in March 2025, the scheme focuses on locally owned businesses in Singapore’s Central Area with at least 30 years of history. Beyond longevity, awardees were recognised for their heritage significance, community contributions, innovation and sustainability. Businesses receive support through increased brand visibility, inclusion in NHB’s heritage portal, placemaking features and consultancy services.

Honouring Culinary Heritage

Food remains at the heart of Singapore’s identity, and this year’s awardees spotlight beloved eateries that have stood the test of time. From the timeless South Indian vegetarian fare of Kamala Restaurant and Padang dishes at Sabar Menanti Nasi Padang, to classic dim sum at Red Star Restaurant, these establishments embody culinary heritage passed through generations.

Household names like JUMBO Seafood, Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee and Muthu’s Curry also stood out for their ability to innovate and grow while preserving their cultural roots.

Celebrating Craftsmanship and Creativity

The scheme also spotlights artisans and craftsmen who keep traditional skills alive. Jewellers such as On Cheong Jewellery and Foundation Jewellers continue the heritage of handcrafted gold pieces. Say Tian Hng Buddha Shop, a sixth-generation business, preserves the art of hand-carving Taoist deities.

In textiles, Dakshaini Silks, STYLEMART Bridal Collection and CYC Company uphold fabric and tailoring traditions. Heritage bookstores like Basheer Graphic Books and Maha Yu Yi continue to nurture a love for reading and cultural knowledge.

Recognising Service Heritage

Service-based businesses were also celebrated for their enduring contributions. Halijah Travels has guided pilgrims for generations, while traditional medical halls like Teck Soon Medical Hall and Thye Shan Medical Hall preserve centuries-old healing practices.

Other recognised businesses include Cathay Photo Store, a pioneer in photography retail; Anushia Flower Shop, a key supplier of temple garlands; and Thandapani Company, a family-run spice business integral to local cuisine.
