[Review] eero 7 Lands in Singapore: An Affordable Gateway to Next-Gen Wi-Fi 7

Having previously rescued my home network from frustrating dead zones with the eero Pro 6E, I was keen to see how the newly launched, more affordable eero 7 would perform. eero, an Amazon company, has now completed its Wi-Fi 7 portfolio in Singapore with the eero 7 and eero Pro 7, offering a tiered approach to next-generation connectivity for everything from compact HDB flats to sprawling landed properties.

The eero 7 is positioned as the brand’s most accessible entry point into the Wi-Fi 7 standard.

It’s a dual-band system designed for everyday use, from seamless 4K streaming to lag-free video calls. The unit itself is compact and unobtrusive, easily fitting on a bookshelf or TV console.

With two auto-sensing 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, it can deliver wired speeds up to 2.3 Gbps and wireless performance up to 1.8 Gbps. A single unit is built to cover up to 190 square metres (roughly the size of a large 5-room HDB flat) and handle 120-plus connected devices, making it a solid upgrade for those on older 1Gbps plans and looking to upgrade to a faster internet subscription plan.

For larger homes or households with heavier demands, for instance, the need for simultaneous 4K streaming, competitive gaming, and VR use, the tri-band eero Pro 7 steps up as a more powerful alternative. We did not try out the Pro model, but it is said to leverage three radio bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and the new 6GHz) to reduce congestion, offering wireless speeds up to 3.9 Gbps. Its two 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports support wired speeds up to 4.7 Gbps. A notable feature it shares with the top-tier eero Max 7 is a fan-less passive thermal design, which keeps it silent and limits dust accumulation.

For most regular homes and average daily usage, the eero 7 is suffice.

Both new models are powered by eero’s proprietary TrueMesh, TrueRoam, and TrueChannel technologies. In practice, these systems work behind the scenes to dynamically route data for optimal performance, ensure your device stays connected to the strongest node as you move around, and automatically select the clearest channels to avoid interference from neighbouring networks.

Eero devices also come with built-in support for essential smart home protocols like Matter, Thread, and Zigbee. This means the eero 7 and Pro 7 can act as a central hub, eliminating the need for separate proprietary bridges for many popular smart home devices and allowing for easy setup with Alexa.

Alongside the hardware, eero has introduced its eero Plus subscription service in Singapore. This optional add-on provides an enhanced layer of security with features like ad blocking, content filters, and activity history. It also bundles subscriptions to three premium security apps: 1Password for password management, Malwarebytes for antivirus protection, and Guardian for a secure VPN.

Overall, a good buy from an established brand, with top notch performance, delivering as expected, just like previous eero models.

Pricing and Availability

The recommended retail price for eero 7 starts from S$219.99 for a single unit and S$499.99 for a three-pack.

The recommended retail price for the higher-performance eero Pro 7 starts at S$429.99 for a one-pack and S$999.99 for a three-pack.

The eero Plus subscription costs S$13.98 per month or S$139.98 per year, both of which come with a free trial period.

These devices are available for purchase directly from the eero online store and will be stocked at leading retailers including Popular, Best Denki, Shopee, Lazada, and Amazon.sg. They are also part of bundled broadband plans from ViewQwest and MyRepublic.
