On the night of 7 September 2025, Singapore will witness a spectacular Total Lunar Eclipse, the first visible here in nearly three years.
The celestial show begins at 11.28pm on 7 September and continues until 4.55am on 8 September, with the peak “blood moon” phase happening between 1.30am and 2.52am. During this period, the Moon will glow in shades of deep red and orange, a striking effect caused by sunlight bending through Earth’s atmosphere and scattering away shorter wavelengths of light.
As Earth aligns directly between the Sun and Moon, our planet’s shadow will gradually blanket the lunar surface. The Moon will first dim before shifting into its dramatic reddish hue, offering a rare, hours-long spectacle that can be viewed across half the globe including Singapore.
While the Science Centre Observatory will not be hosting a dedicated viewing session for this eclipse, astronomy enthusiasts can join its regular Friday stargazing sessions, where telescopes open up views of stars, planets, and the wider solar system. More details can be found here.
