Pickle Party: A Fermented Feast of Art, Ecology, and Edible Hope at Esplanade

What starts as a humble pickling workshop transforms into an immersive performance at Pickle Party, a groundbreaking, multi-species, multidisciplinary production that blends theatre, visual art, live music, and microbial magic. Running from September 11 to 14, 2025, at the Esplanade Annexe Studio, this one-of-a-kind experience explores the intersection of food, ecology, and community.

Helmed by visionary directors Ang Xiao Ting (Extinction Feast, ECOncert) and Kuo Jian Hong (All The World’s A Sea, Four Horse Road), Pickle Party brings together performance and participatory art in a wildly creative space: a Singapore version of The Living Stage by Australian eco-scenographer Tanja Beer. This edible, biodegradable, and recyclable set is more than a backdrop.

What’s the Party About?

Set amidst Singapore’s transformation from farmland to global city, Pickle Party prompts audiences to question: Where does our food come from? Who’s part of the process? And what might we be eating in the future? From microbes to megacities, the production uncovers the unseen relationships between humans, ecosystems, and food security.
