Why Suntory Kakubin?

A gold medal winner at the 2024 International Spirits Competition, Suntory Whisky Kakubin is Japan’s best-selling whisky, known for its balanced blend of Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita distillery whiskies.

Its crisp, citrusy highball variation, first introduced in 1937, pairs perfectly with Japanese cuisine, cutting through rich flavors while refreshing the palate.

Where to Enjoy Kakubin Highballs

Several popular Singapore establishments are part of the promotion, including:

  • Ginkyo by Kinki (Japanese fusion)
  • Sabar (traditional izakaya)
  • Wa-En Wagyu Yakiniku (premium yakiniku)
  • Taki Izakaya (modern izakaya dining)
  • Hachimaru (classic izakaya experience)

We recently had the pleasure of experiencing the perfect pairing of Suntory Kakubin Highballs with Japanese cuisine at two distinct venues – Sabar at 100 AM, a traditional izakaya serving freshly grilled yakitori and comforting small plates, and Ginkyo by Kinki at One Holland Village, a modern izakaya offering creative Japanese fusion dishes.

Sabar at 100 AM

At Sabar, the whisky’s crisp citrus notes beautifully cut through the smokiness of grilled seafood like scallops and squids, while at Ginkyo, the highball’s effervescence provided a refreshing contrast to richer, fusion dishes like Salmon Mango Salsa Tacos and Spicy Chicken Reaper, made with Carolina Reaper hot sauce.

Both experiences highlighted why this iconic Japanese highball has remained a staple since 1937.

A full list of venues can be found on the official website.
