Celebrate Culture, Community & Wellness at Wisma Geylang Serai This May

This May, Wisma Geylang Serai (WGS) invites you to rediscover the spirit of community through a vibrant month-long celebration of wellness, heritage, and the arts. As one of Singapore’s iconic cultural landmarks, WGS will come alive with energising workouts, captivating performances, and meaningful community events designed to connect generations and honour local traditions.

Start your weekends strong with the newly refreshed Gerak-Gerak Geylang, held every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 10am. This reimagined fitness series includes EasiRobics with Coach Wan—an inclusive, low-impact workout that blends aerobics, strength training, and stretching. Zumba enthusiasts can also dance it out with the ever-popular Coach Liz, who brings her signature energy to the floor. These free sessions are open to all fitness levels and aim to bring the community closer through movement.

As the sun sets, Riuh Seni transforms WGS into a lively cultural stage. Happening every weekend evening from 5pm to 6pm, these performances showcase Singapore’s rich performing arts scene through music, dance, and traditional showcases—bringing creativity and culture to life in everyday spaces.

The festivities continue with special event highlights throughout the month:

10 May: Muzikita – Retro Revival

Relive classic Malay hits with The East Coast Rockers, as they reinterpret retro favourites like Khayalan, Penyanyi, and Joget Bunga Melati. Hosted by Amy Kecik and featuring Atrika Dance Company, this high-energy night celebrates nostalgia with a modern twist.

17 May: Sari Derhaka

Step into the world of traditional Malay theatre with this purbawara-style performance—a dramatic retelling of Megat Terawis that weaves music, dance, and heritage into a rich cultural tapestry.

24 May: Sayembara Bisikan Pena Finale

Witness the voices of tomorrow in this literary showcase featuring youth-driven poetry and prose. After months of mentorship and workshops, aspiring writers take the stage to share their stories of identity, community, and hope.

25 May: Cyclation #SG60Bersama

Gear up for a community cycling event celebrating Singapore’s 60th year of independence. Explore the Geylang Serai precinct on a morning ride that blends wellness with heritage discovery. Pre-registration is required.

31 May: Jijok Angin – Malay Arts Festival

Close out the month with a two-day cultural immersion featuring traditional performances and workshops in Seni Tari, Dikir Barat, and Sajak. Jijok Angin offers a hands-on celebration of the performing arts that shape Malay identity and expression.

With all activities free and open to the public (unless otherwise stated), Wisma Geylang Serai continues to be a heartland haven where culture thrives and community bonds grow stronger.
