Cathay Pacific is set to expand its global reach with the launch of direct flights between Hong Kong and Urumqi, starting 28 April 2025. This new four-times-weekly service marks Urumqi as the 20th passenger destination in the Chinese Mainland for the Cathay Group, further strengthening its presence in the region.
This summer, Cathay Pacific and HK Express will operate over 290 return flights per week between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, covering major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and now Urumqi. The Hong Kong-Urumqi route will be served by Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A330-300, offering a comfortable travel experience with Business and Economy cabins.
Through Cathay’s Hong Kong hub, passengers from Urumqi and other Mainland cities will have seamless connections to Asia, Europe, North America, the South West Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Additionally, under the Individual Visit Scheme, travelers from Urumqi can explore Hong Kong independently, enhancing tourism and business opportunities.
The Cathay Group is on track to operate flights to over 100 destinations worldwide within 2025. Alongside Urumqi, Cathay Pacific will also launch direct flights to Hyderabad (March), Dallas (April), Rome and Munich (June), and Brussels (August). Meanwhile, HK Express is expanding its network with new routes to Sendai, Nha Trang, Komatsu, Ishigaki, and Miyako (Shimojishima).
