Cathay Secures Double Victory at ATW Airline Industry Achievement Awards

Cathay has been recognized with two prestigious accolades at the 51st Annual Air Transport World (ATW) Airline Industry Achievement Awards. Cathay Cargo has reclaimed its title as Cargo Operator of the Year, while Cathay Pacific has become the first airline in Asia to be named Eco-Airline of the Year.

Cathay Cargo: Excellence in Innovation and Connectivity

Cathay Cargo’s latest win underscores its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in air cargo operations. Its intermodal services between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Dongguan strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a vital gateway, streamlining cargo acceptance and transport in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

In 2024, Cathay Cargo introduced:

  • New API integrations for seamless booking via Click & Ship
  • Enhanced Cathay Courier services with piece-level tracking
  • IATA ONE Record adoption, making it the first carrier to implement this data protocol a year ahead of schedule

Additionally, Cathay Cargo and its Hong Kong Cargo Terminal hold full IATA CEIV certifications, affirming their expertise in handling special cargo, while its commitment to sustainability is recognized through the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification.

Cathay Pacific: Pioneering Sustainable Aviation

Cathay Pacific’s Eco-Airline of the Year award highlights its leadership in sustainable aviation and circular resource management. The airline is on track to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with major initiatives including:

  • Corporate SAF Programme: Leading SAF adoption in Asia with over 6,050 metric tonnes of commitments in 2024
  • Hong Kong SAF Coalition: Driving supportive policies with industry partners
  • Reducing Single-Use Plastics (SUP): Cutting usage from 7.7 pieces per passenger in 2019 to 2.6 in 2024, with a goal of 1.5 by 2025
  • Recycling and rPET Initiatives: Improved inflight water bottle recycling and 100% recycled plastic (rPET) bottled water on all Hong Kong flights from July 2024

Cathay’s Global Recognition

These latest wins complement Cathay’s other top-tier accolades, including its Skytrax and AirlineRatings ranking among the world’s top five airlines, and its Economy Class being named the world’s best.
