Get Ready to Race in Magic: The Gathering’s Aetherdrift

Wizards of the Coast is revving up excitement as it announces the prerelease events for the latest set of Magic: The Gathering (MTG), titled Aetherdrift. Starting February 7, players can gear up for a thrilling death race across the multiverse, culminating in a full release on February 14. This new set promises high-octane action and adrenaline-fueled gameplay that will keep fans on the edge of their seats!

A High-Stakes Race Across the Multiverse

In Aetherdrift, players will find themselves in the driver’s seat of the Ghirapur Grand Prix, where the stakes are higher than ever. The ultimate prize? An artificial Planeswalker Spark known as the Aetherspark. Legendary Planeswalker Chandra is among the competitors, racing to claim the Aetherspark for her beloved Nissa, who lost her Spark during the events of March of the Machine. Players will need to navigate the treacherous terrains of Avishkar, Amonkhet, and Muraganda, racing at Maximum Speed to secure victory. Will you go for gold or risk it all in a fiery crash?

Race to Victory Events

Southeast Asia’s Wizards Play Network (WPN) stores are gearing up for the Race To Victory, running from February 7 to April 30. Participating retailers will host eligible events where players can earn exclusive physical rewards. By participating in multiple events throughout the season, players can build speed and unlock increasingly valuable rewards. To find a local WPN store and eligible events, players can visit the official website.

Participants in Aetherdrift prerelease events, Drafts, Standard, Commander, and other formats (such as Modern, Sealed, and Legacy) will have the chance to earn progressive rewards, including Campaign Pins from the three universes in Aetherdrift, A3 posters of two Graffiti Giants, race tags, and a customized Speed/Lifecounter.

Additionally, the first three players to finish in-store by March 23 will qualify to compete for their country’s Aetherspark trophy. A total of five trophies will be awarded across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, each engraved with the name of the country where it was won.

New Mechanics for High-Octane Gameplay

Aetherdrift introduces exciting new mechanics that will keep players engaged and strategizing. The Max Speed mechanic allows players to track their speed level, gaining speed each time an opponent loses life. As players ramp up their speed, various cards will interact with their speed level, increasing in power as they reach ‘Max Speed.’

The new Exhaust mechanic offers a one-time effect that can be activated only once per game, allowing players to disrupt their opponents’ plans at critical moments.

Returning mechanics like Mounts and Vehicles will also play a crucial role in Aetherdrift, giving players the option to choose from a variety of high-tech vehicles and unique mounts to enhance their racing experience.

Go for Gold!

With Aetherdrift’s lineup of new card treatments and collectible cards, players can not only race fast but also look good doing it. The excitement is palpable as the multiverse gears up for this thrilling new chapter in Magic: The Gathering.
