Spring Reception 2025 Welcomes the Year of the Snake with Vibrant Festivities and Cultural Announcements

Singapore’s Chinese community came together in grand fashion to celebrate the Spring Reception 2025, an annual event co-hosted by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) and the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA). Marking the 11th year of collaboration between the two organizations, this year’s celebration welcomed 888 distinguished guests, including community leaders, cultural representatives, and government officials.

Held in the spirit of unity and cultural appreciation, the event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, alongside key figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing, and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong. Representatives from diplomatic circles, Chinese clan associations, local arts groups, and other ethnic communities also joined the festivities.

Guests enjoyed a vibrant cultural performance celebrating Singapore’s Chinese heritage, while the Life Art Society enriched the atmosphere with a live calligraphy demonstration, creating festive couplets and New Year paintings.

Exciting Developments from SCCC and SFCCA

The Spring Reception also served as a platform to announce new cultural initiatives. SCCC Chairman Ng Siew Quan highlighted the Centre’s 2024 milestones, including:

  • A sold-out SING.浪 concert
  • The launch of Culturepaedia, a digital cultural initiative
  • A record-breaking 42,217 visitors at the Mid-Autumn Family FUN 2024

Looking ahead, he revealed:

  • A three-year partnership (2026–2028) with the Land Transport Authority, featuring festive decorations on public transport during Chinese New Year
  • Singapore’s first Chinese Opera Festival, to be held from June to July 2025, in collaboration with the National Arts Council

Meanwhile, SFCCA President Thomas Chua reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to strengthening clan associations, ensuring their continued relevance in modern Singapore. Key announcements included:

  • A collaboration with Singapore University of Social Sciences to develop a tailored training programme for clan associations, launching later this year
  • An increase in the “Clan Associations Cultural Activities Fund” cap to S$7,500, with greater support for joint projects between multiple clans
  • A Fundraising Gala Dinner in the second half of the year, marking SFCCA’s 40th anniversary, with proceeds supporting cultural initiatives and the renovation of its Toa Payoh headquarters

Strengthening Cultural Bonds for the Future

With these initiatives, SCCC and SFCCA continue to champion Chinese heritage in Singapore, ensuring its vibrancy for future generations. As the community embraces the Year of the Snake, the Spring Reception 2025 set the stage for another year of cultural celebration, innovation, and unity.
