Singapore Biennale 2025: ‘Pure Intention’ Brings Art to Everyday Spaces

The Singapore Biennale (SB2025) is making its much-anticipated return, running from 31 October 2025 to 29 March 2026. Organized by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and commissioned by the National Arts Council (NAC), this eighth edition coincides with Singapore’s 60th year of independence, offering a unique platform to celebrate the nation’s milestones and explore its future through contemporary art.

Art with ‘Pure Intention’

This year’s theme, ‘Pure Intention,’ invites audiences to reimagine Singapore as a city built on collective histories, shared aspirations, and surprising juxtapositions. Through installations, performances, and exhibitions spread across public spaces, SB2025 challenges visitors to view familiar environments with fresh perspectives, encouraging reflection on Singapore’s past, present, and possible futures.

A Collaboration of Global and Local Voices

SB2025 brings together a diverse array of local and international artists, curatorial collectives, and institutions. Curators Duncan Bass, Hsu Fang-Tze, Ong Puay Khim, and Selene Yap have collaborated with organizations like Hyphen— (Indonesia), SAVVY Contemporary (Germany), Asian Film Archive (Singapore), Hothouse (Singapore), and The Packet (Sri Lanka). These partnerships will showcase new and existing projects, with a strong emphasis on regional and local content, bridging communities through art.

For the first time, the Biennale will make its mark in iconic locations such as Fort Canning Park and the Rail Corridor, alongside urban, natural, and everyday spaces. These venues will spotlight the histories, rituals, and aspirations that shape Singapore’s landscapes and urban experiences.
