Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2024 Sets New Records with 55,000 Runners

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2024 celebrated a spectacular weekend, attracting over 55,000 participants from around the globe. With a refreshed route and a stunning finish at the historic Anderson Bridge, this year’s event reinforced its status as the region’s only World Athletics Gold Label race. The turnout included nearly 13,000 international runners from 84 countries, showcasing SCSM’s growing global appeal.

A Vibrant Showcase of Athleticism

Runners donning the signature green and blue singlets transformed Singapore into a hub of energy and camaraderie. The half marathon (21.1km) offered an ideal challenge for both seasoned athletes and first-timers, while the marathon (42.195km) pushed participants to their limits against a backdrop of Singapore’s stunning cityscapes.

The return of the Ekiden race added a team spirit to the event. Teams navigated iconic landmarks like Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, and East Coast Park, sharing the marathon distance through four changeover zones. Each finisher received a collectible Ekiden medal, which, when connected, formed a singular masterpiece celebrating teamwork.

Gold Label Elite Marathon: A Showcase of Global Talent

In the prestigious Gold Label Elite Marathon, Kenya’s Geoffrey Yegon took first place in the men’s category with a time of 2:16:06, while Ethiopia’s Fantu Zewude Jifar triumphed in the women’s category, finishing in 2:39:04. Both champions took home a grand prize of USD $45,000.

National Championship: Local Stars Shine

The National Championship highlighted Singapore’s running talent. Soh Rui Yong and Rachel See clinched the men’s and women’s marathon titles, finishing with times of 2:46:05 and 3:00:45, respectively, earning SGD $10,000 each. Rachel also claimed the Women’s Masters title in the same category.

In the half marathon, Shaun Goh and Vanessa Lee emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s divisions, clocking times of 1:12:31 and 1:24:17.

A Celebration of Community and Endurance

Beyond the races, SCSM 2024 was a celebration of community and resilience. Each runner received a curated race kit, including a singlet, finisher’s medal, and refreshments, with Ekiden participants receiving exclusive gear bags and medals symbolizing unity.
