On November 13, 2024, Gateway Theatre pulsed with the vibrant energy of DARE Festival 2024, where an extraordinary lineup of artists united to celebrate courage and inclusivity through the arts. The festival featured powerful performances from Singapore’s jazz icon Jacintha, pop sensation shazza, and groundbreaking artists from the disabled community, including pianist Dr. Azariah Tan and vocalist Andrea Hosking, each weaving stories of resilience, empowerment, and self-discovery.
With the theme “Dare To Be, Dare To Live, Dare To Be-Live,” the festival embraced diversity across its three acts, inspiring audiences to appreciate and embrace individual differences. Adding to the significance of the event, Mr. Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment and Transport, attended as guest-of-honour, underscoring the festival’s commitment to social inclusion.
A debut by Deaf community leader Lily Goh deepened the festival’s impact, showcasing the rich collaboration between mainstream and disabled artists. Accessibility was a key focus, with Singapore Sign Language interpreters, captions, and audio descriptions provided throughout, ensuring everyone could fully experience each moment.
The DARE Festival 2024 was more than a cultural gathering; it was a movement for change. Proceeds from the event will go toward disability initiatives and Collective Perspectives’ empowerment projects.
