gamescom asia 2024 Concludes with Record Attendance and Notable Milestones for Southeast Asian Gaming Industry

The 4th edition of gamescom asia wrapped up last weekend, drawing over 41,000 attendees to Singapore’s Suntec Convention Center, a 20% increase from the previous year’s attendance. This year’s event attracted both gaming industry professionals and enthusiastic fans, affirming gamescom asia’s role as Southeast Asia’s premier gaming business and consumer event.

Attendees included industry leaders such as ex-PlayStation Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden, Raw Fury’s Gordon Van Dyke, SEGA’s Justin Scarpone, and MINTROCKET’s Jaeho Hwang, who shared insights on game development, business strategies, and the future of the gaming industry. The entertainment area offered fans exclusive previews of anticipated titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and Sonic X Shadow Generations, as well as a thrilling CAPCOM Pro Tour competition.

With over 4,400 business visitors, the event set a new benchmark for regional professional gatherings, welcoming international participants from Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, and the US. Alvin Tan, Singapore’s Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth & Trade and Industry, attended as Guest-of-Honor, addressing Southeast Asia’s rising influence in the global gaming and esports markets.

Shawn Layden’s fireside chat was a highlight in the business conference, where he spoke on the importance of innovation and cross-platform integration, noting, “If we rely only on blockbusters, we’re limiting the industry’s potential.” The conference featured over 80 experts discussing topics from game design to business strategy, with speakers like Xbox’s Agnes Kim and MyDearest’s Matthieu Youna offering exclusive insights.

In the entertainment area, gaming fans experienced CAPCOM’s 1,000 sqm booth, where they previewed new titles and witnessed the CAPCOM Pro Tour 2024, culminating in Shuto of Crazy Raccoon winning the tournament and US$10,000. The indie section, featuring over 60 titles in partnership with Indie Wavemakers, drew crowds keen to explore innovative games from independent developers.

Andrew Wincott, voice of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Raphael, led a captivating discussion on voice acting, while other events like J-pop performances, cosplay competitions, and game demos contributed to the festival atmosphere.

A highlight of the event was the Pitch Competition, where Southeast Asian developers showcased their talents. Winning titles included Love In Tiny Spaces by Battlebrew Production, Project Guardian by Ammobox Studio, and Lost and Found Co. by Bit Egg Inc. These Southeast Asian winners gained funding and playtesting support to advance their projects.
