The “Eat Spain Drink Spain” (ESDS) 2024 campaign was officially launched in September, bringing a month-long celebration of Spanish cuisine and culture to Singapore. With a lineup of exclusive tasting events, cooking classes, wine dinners, and retail showcases, the campaign offers Singaporeans a chance to immerse in the rich and diverse flavours of Spain.
If you love Spanish food and drinks or are just curious about Spanish cuisine, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the best Spanish offerings in Singapore.
From gourmet tapas to artisanal wines, the campaign highlights the best of Spanish gastronomy across multiple venues in the city, ranging from artisanal grocers to fine dining restaurants.
Last weekend, we attended one of the ESDS event highlights held at Huber’s Butchery, where guests were treated to a tasting of premium Spanish cheeses, wines, and olive oils. The tasting featured an exclusive showcase of Quesos de Hualdo’s artisanal cheeses, renowned for their rich, nutty flavours.
Quesos de Hualdo is an artisanal cheese producer located in El Carpio de Tajo, Toledo, Spain. The farm raises around 2,000 Manchega sheep, a breed known for its adaptability to the region’s harsh, dry climate. The sheep graze on natural meadows and pastures, contributing to the farm’s circular economy by enriching the land with organic matter. These practices ensure high-quality milk production, producing a range of rich, flavourful cheeses.
Attendees were allowed to sample a variety of Spanish products, paired expertly with wines and olive oils, creating an unforgettable gastronomic experience. The samples were so good we witness several shoppers heading right to the aisles to purchase the produce right after sampling.
Another interesting Spanish brand featured is Ar de Arte, renowned for its high-quality canned seafood, particularly its sardines, which are handcrafted in Galicia, Spain. The brand emphasises traditional, artisanal techniques, preserving each product by hand to ensure exceptional taste and authenticity. Their sardines and other seafood offerings are not only prized for their superior quality but also for their artistic packaging, featuring designs from local Galician artists. Ar de Arte combines culinary excellence with creative expression, making their products a celebration of Galicia’s rich fishing heritage and artistic talent.
The tasting session was accompanied by informative presentations on the origins and craftsmanship behind the products. Huber’s Butchery, already well-known for its high-quality meats, was the perfect venue to introduce the public to the authentic tastes of Spain.
