Arts House Limited Launches Sketch Up: A Landmark Mass-Sketching Event in Singapore’s Civic District

Arts House Limited (AHL) is excited to unveil Sketch Up, a brand-new outdoor mass-sketching event in Singapore’s Civic District. Taking place on Saturday, 26 October 2024, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the scenic Empress Lawn in front of Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall, this event offers an immersive artistic experience for participants of all ages and skill levels.

In collaboration with Art Apart Fair, Sketch Up is part of the Arts in the Civic District initiative, which aims to enrich the cultural life of Singapore’s Civic District—home to iconic national monuments, museums, and arts venues. This inaugural event invites participants to sketch the stunning neoclassical façade of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, including its distinctive Clock Tower inspired by Queen Victoria’s crown. It’s an opportunity to appreciate both the architectural beauty and cultural significance of this beloved landmark.

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a beginner, Sketch Up is open to everyone. The event will be led by renowned urban landscape painter Chankerk Teh, known for his bold, dynamic brush strokes that capture the essence of urban landscapes. Artists from Urban Sketchers Singapore, a community of passionate local artists, will also join to showcase the beauty of Singapore through on-location sketching. With over 400 attendees expected, Sketch Up promises to be an unforgettable experience.

After the event, participants can submit their sketches for a digital showcase on the Civic District website, where the public can vote for their favorite artwork. The top-voted artist will win a Huion Kamvas 13 Drawing Pad Tablet and Pen Display (valued at $239) and a $100 dining voucher for Brasserie Astoria. Two lucky voters will also win $100 dining vouchers.

All registered attendees will receive a special goodie bag worth $20, featuring exclusive merchandise like an AHL tote bag, bucket hat, Sparky the Civic District hand fan, and an Art Friend voucher, plus refreshments from POKKA. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sketching tools, though coloring sheets and pencils will be provided for children aged 4 to 12.

Rain or shine, Sketch Up is set to bring the Civic District to life in a celebration of creativity, culture, and community.
