In honor of the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s iconic Dragon Ball manga, Toei Animation is bringing fans a brand-new adventure with the upcoming original anime series, Dragon Ball DAIMA. Set to debut on Crunchyroll starting October 11, 2024, the series will be available worldwide, including in Singapore, with weekly subtitled episodes simulcast with the Japanese TV broadcast.
Dragon Ball DAIMA takes fans on an exciting new journey as Goku and his friends, including Supreme Kai and new characters Glorio and Panzy, are mysteriously turned into smaller versions of themselves due to a conspiracy. Together, they venture into the unknown Demon Realm where fresh adventures and challenges await.
The series is directed by Yoshitaka Yashima, known for his work on Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge, and Aya Komaki, who has directed episodes of One Piece. Yuko Kakihara is responsible for the series composition and scenario, while the character designs are crafted by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru.
Adding to the excitement, Dragon Ball DAIMA features the opening theme song “Jaka Jaan,” composed by Grammy Award-winning artist Zedd, alongside the singer-songwriter duo C&K (CLIEVY and KEEN), who provide vocals. The song’s lyrics were written by Yukinojo Mori, best known for iconic Dragon Ball tracks like “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” and “Limit Break x Survivor.” Zedd also produced the ending theme, “NAKAMA” featuring AI, further solidifying the series’ musical legacy.
Revealed during the Dragon Ball Special Panel at New York Comic Con 2023 to roaring applause, Dragon Ball DAIMA commemorates the incredible 40-year legacy of the Dragon Ball franchise. Since its debut in 1984 in Weekly Shonen Jump, the original manga has sold over 260 million copies worldwide and continues to capture the imagination of generations.
With Dragon Ball DAIMA, the franchise now boasts six episodic series, including Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and Dragon Ball Super, along with 21 feature films, numerous video games, and a vast catalog of merchandise. As one of the most successful anime franchises of all time, Dragon Ball remains a pillar of global pop culture, and this new series promises to take fans on yet another unforgettable journey.
