[Review] Italian Comfort Food at the Reimagined Pete’s Place at Grand Hyatt Singapore

After a long-awaited transformation, Pete’s Place at Grand Hyatt Singapore officially reopened its doors recently, ready to delight guests with its signature Italian comfort food. A staple in Singapore’s dining scene since 1973, Pete’s Place is looking to continue its legacy of serving authentic Italian fare in a cosy, rustic trattoria setting, right in the heart of the Orchard shopping belt at the freshly renovated Grand Hyatt Singapore.

The newly relaunched Pete’s Place offers a variety of dining experiences.

For lunch, guests can enjoy a semi-buffet that includes an insalata and dolce counter for $42++, or opt for a main course addition for $62++.

The dinner menu, available à la carte, features an array of classic Italian dishes that cater to both traditional tastes and modern preferences.

Additionally, Pete’s Place now offers a special Sunday brunch from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm, priced at $88++ per adult and $44++ per child, with an optional alcoholic beverage package available for $58++.

We were invited to a dinner tasting and these were the ideas we sampled:

SAKURA SPRITZ $21
mancino sakura vermouth, singha soda water, val d’oca ‘rive di san pietro di barbozza’ prosecco, flower
AMERICANO COCKTAIL $18
campari, carpano antica formula rosso vermoth, singha soda water, orange
House bread
ARANCINI $16
porcini mushrooms, risotto rice, asiago cheese
PROSCIUTTO DI PARMA $26
24-month aged addobbo parma ham, melon
VERDURE GRIGLIATE PLATTER
Selection of marinated vegetable from Pete’s Brunch
MARGHERITA DOP $28
san marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil
GNOCCHI GAMBERI E ZUCCHINE
Potato gnocchi, zucchini cream, tiger prawns, mint
OSSOBUCO DI AGNELLO
Braised lamb shank, creamy polenta, broccolini
VANILLA PANNA COTTA $16
seasonal berry compote, almond biscotti
PETE’S TIRAMISU $18
mascarpone, savoiardi biscuits, espresso, white amaretto

Under the new leadership of Chef Salvatore Giorgio Catania from Puglia, Italy, the restaurant has embraced its Italian roots while introducing some innovative touches. Highlights from the menu include a homely braised lamb shank and the signature Pete’s Tiramisu. The former presents an elevated home-cook savoury dish that is the perfect comfort food while the latter ends the meal on a fluffy, sweet note.

Overall, we appreciate the culinary team sticking to traditional offerings and not going overboard with experimentation. Given Pete’s Place’s established heritage in Singapore’s culinary scene, it is prudent to stick to the classics, with added touch of contemporary influences instead of a complete overhaul of the menu.

The restaurant also features an open chef’s table for an elevated dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy a kitchen-to-tableside service.

The ambiance of Pete’s Place has been thoughtfully refreshed to retain its warm and inviting trattoria feel. It now includes a private dining room and a grand wine cellar, offering a more intimate setting for special occasions or a cosy meal with loved ones.

For those seeking a nostalgic yet refreshed dining experience, Pete’s Place offers a balance of tradition and modernity, staying true to its heritage while embracing new culinary trends.
