Far East Hospitality Becomes Singapore’s Leader in GSTC-Certified Hotels

Far East Hospitality, Singapore’s premier home-grown hospitality management company, has set a new benchmark in sustainability by achieving the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification for all 16 of its hotels in the country. This milestone makes Far East Hospitality the hospitality group with the largest number of GSTC-certified properties in Singapore.

The GSTC certification, a globally recognized standard for sustainability, reflects Far East Hospitality’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and its mission to maintain the highest standards of sustainable hospitality.

Far East Hospitality accomplished this significant feat ahead of the 2025 target set by the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). The company’s journey to certification has involved rigorous annual tracking and monitoring of energy, water, waste, and carbon emissions. These metrics are meticulously documented in Far East Hospitality Trust and Far East Orchard’s annual Sustainability Reports.

Oasia Hotel Downtown and Village Hotel Sentosa are part of Far East Hospitality’s 16 sites that have received GSTC certification as part of their commitment to sustainable tourism.

As part of its broader sustainability efforts, Far East Hospitality developed the “Far More Sustainable” framework. This initiative not only raises awareness about sustainability but also integrates environmentally responsible practices throughout its operations. Key measures include encouraging guests to reuse towels and linens, launching a carbon offset platform, eliminating single-use plastic water bottles, and adopting large amenity dispensers.

Moreover, Far East Hospitality’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its properties. The company actively engages with suppliers and local communities, supporting initiatives that benefit children, youth, and local businesses. These efforts further enhance guest experiences while promoting sustainable practices within the industry.

Control Union, a global network specializing in independent certifications, played a crucial role in this achievement. As a recognized entity by the GSTC, Control Union ensures that accredited organizations meet stringent sustainability criteria, promoting environmentally responsible practices worldwide.
