Singapore Garden Festival 2024 has once again provided a vibrant stage for young talents to showcase their landscape design and floral artistry. Winners of the Landscape Design Challenge and the Floral Harmony competition were announced today, highlighting the creativity and skill of students from local and international schools. The festival, held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, runs until August 11, 2024.
Since its inception in 2006, the Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) has become a cornerstone in nurturing the nation’s passion for gardening and horticulture. The Landscape Design Challenge and Floral Harmony competition are key elements of this mission, reflecting NParks’ dedication to cultivating young talents and fostering a lifelong love for gardening.
The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) emerged triumphant in the Landscape Design Challenge. Students Naufa Tehah A’Dri (20), Anissa Fatini Binti Mohamed Faizal (23), and Celeste Saputra (19) won Gold for their project “Lush Revival,” which envisions a tropical city transforming into a lush garden.
This competition offers students from Institutes of Higher Learning a hands-on learning experience, emphasizing the horticultural expertise required for designing and constructing landscaped areas. Themed “Celebrating Tropical Nature,” ten teams had four hours to turn 3m by 3m plots into beautiful gardens. They were judged on design, execution, plant variety, suitability, and project management.
Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for Home Affairs & National Development, presented the awards. Silver went to Singapore Polytechnic’s Sol Tropicana for their immersive kampong experience “Celebrating Tropical Nature: Frames of the past.”
Bronze was awarded to another ITE team, Grand Guardians of the Green, for their display “Fragmented Realities: Nurture or Neglect?” highlighting the contrast between a tropical rainforest and deforestation.
The Floral Harmony competition, organized by Qihua Primary School and supported by the National Parks Board, offered a platform for youths aged 21 and below to exhibit their floral art skills. Participants from primary, secondary, and tertiary schools competed in various age categories, aiming to enhance artistic appreciation and foster a passion for floral art.
Ms. Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs & National Development, presented the awards to the winners. The floral arrangements are currently on display at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, Level 4, until August 6.
The festival continues until August 11, with tickets available for purchase on SISTIC. Visitors can admire the creative efforts of young talents and gain inspiration from the innovative designs and arrangements on display.
