Get ready for another year of world-class golf action as the Maybank Championship makes its highly anticipated return for its second edition. Scheduled to take place from October 24th to 27th, 2024, at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club’s (KLGCC) West Course, this prestigious event will once again be sanctioned by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and promises to deliver an exceptional golfing experience.
The Maybank Championship, known for its spectacular showcase of global golfing talent, is set to attract the sport’s elite players from around the world. With a prize purse of USD 3 million—the highest in the region—this year’s tournament is set to be a thrilling competition. The 2023 edition saw a dramatic nine-hole play-off, the second-longest in LPGA history, with Céline Boutier emerging victorious over Atthaya Thitikul. Top names such as Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, and Ruoning Yin also competed, making it a memorable event for golf enthusiasts.
In addition to the exciting tournament, this year’s Maybank Championship will feature a significant new element: the ASEAN Qualifier. This innovative addition aims to empower and inspire female professional and amateur golfers from ASEAN countries by offering five coveted spots in the main championship. The ASEAN Qualifier, taking place on August 27th and 28th at KLGCC’s West Course, will be the first regional qualifier to offer such an opportunity, providing a platform for ASEAN golfers to compete alongside the best in the world.
The ASEAN Qualifier is open to female golfers from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Professional golfers with a valid card from a recognized Tour body (excluding the LPGA) and female amateur golfers with a World Handicap System (WHS) index of 2.0 or below are invited to apply. Applications close on August 9, 2024, so interested players should act fast to secure their spot.
The Maybank Championship continues to build on its impressive legacy, reaching over 170 countries and 560 million households last year. By hosting this high-profile event, Maybank not only showcases the excellence of the sport but also fosters economic growth, inclusivity, and community upliftment across the ASEAN region. The championship serves as a testament to Maybank’s commitment to the sport and its broader mission of empowering communities and individuals through the game of golf.
Don’t miss your chance to witness top international golfers in action and see the rising stars from ASEAN compete for their place in this prestigious tournament. Stay tuned for updates and more details on the Maybank Championship and the ASEAN Qualifier!
