Cosentino Collaborates with Formafantasma to Unveil EARTHIC by Silestone XM

Cosentino has introduced EARTHIC by SilestoneXM, a groundbreaking sustainable surface concept developed in collaboration with the renowned Italian studio Formafantasma. This innovative collection sets a new industry standard by combining unconventional and reclaimed materials, reinforcing Cosentino’s commitment to sustainability and minimizing the environmental impact of surface production.

A Sustainable Milestone

First revealed during Milan Design Week 2024, EARTHIC represents the next generation of mineral hybriq surfaces. The SilestoneXM collection features a maximum crystalline silica content of just 10% and is produced using 100% renewable electrical energy and 99% recycled water through Cosentino’s proprietary Hybriq+ technology. This capsule collection includes up to 30% recycled materials, such as recycled glass, PET, bio-resin, and Dekton fragments, redefining what can be repurposed and reimagined in surface design.

Redefining Material Use

EARTHIC aims to revolutionize surface design by using recycled materials to reduce the need for new raw materials. The manufacturing process incorporates post-consumer bio-resin (derived from vegetable oil and recycled cooking oil), plastic bottles transformed into unique surface scales, and discarded Dekton fragments. This approach significantly decreases the environmental footprint of the surfaces.

EARTHIC LAB at Milan Design Week

At Milan Design Week 2024, Cosentino and Formafantasma launched EARTHIC at the historic Teatro Gerolamo. The ethereal presentation featured music, lighting, video, and raw materials, creating a lunar landscape that challenged attendees to consider ethical and ecological production methods. This dynamic installation received a Special Mention in the Technology category at the prestigious Fuorisalone Award, recognizing its impact on the project and design sector.
