In a recent nationwide survey conducted by Bumble, the women-first dating app, a significant trend has emerged: “astrolove,” where singles look to astrology for dating compatibility. According to the survey, more than half of Singaporeans (55%) are turning to the stars to guide their love lives.
As we enter Gemini season, a time known for openness and curiosity, opportunities for new connections and experiences abound. Adding to the cosmic significance, the full Strawberry Moon will peak on June 21, symbolizing love and purity. This celestial event presents an ideal moment for singles to embrace the potential for romance and reset their hearts and minds for the rest of 2024.
Astrology’s influence on dating has become more mainstream, with Bumble’s survey highlighting that 28% of Singaporeans regularly read star signs to gauge potential partners. This trend is not limited to any one demographic; it’s gaining traction across different groups.
Interestingly, the survey found that 51% of men in Singapore believe astrology is relevant to their love lives, with 22% enjoying reading star signs, even if they don’t consider them decisive. This data suggests that astrology is a universal tool for understanding romantic potential.
Millennials, in particular, place significant importance on astrology. According to the survey, 15% of millennials use horoscopes and star signs to explain their dating behaviors, compared to 10% of Gen Z. Moreover, 12% of millennials avoid certain star signs deemed incompatible, and 10% see star sign incompatibility as a dealbreaker, compared to 10% and 6% of Gen Z, respectively.
On Bumble, users can add star sign badges to their profiles, helping potential partners find astrological compatibility. This feature has proven popular, with those adding the Star Sign badge experiencing 118% more matches on average. Among the star signs, Libras have the highest match rates, followed by Scorpios and Virgos.
For those curious about integrating astrology into their romantic pursuits, Bumble’s podcast, “Give Me A Buzz,” features insights from resident astrologer Emma Vidgen. This episode offers deeper understanding and practical tips for navigating love through the stars.
The Bumble survey was conducted from June 23 to June 30, 2023, with a sample of 1,000 singles in Singapore aged 18-42.
