Leica Camera AG Launches Leica LUX: A Professional Photography App for iPhone

Leica Camera AG introduces the Leica LUX app, a groundbreaking camera application that brings the legendary Leica Look to iPhone users. For the first time, iPhone photographers can create images with the unmistakable Leica aesthetic, traditionally associated with Leica’s iconic cameras and lenses.

Experience the ‘Leica Lens Look’ on Your iPhone

Leica LUX allows users to simulate renowned Leica lenses without the need for a physical camera. The app’s ‘Aperture-Mode’ offers the distinct characteristics of classic Leica lenses such as the Summilux-M 28 mm f/1.4 ASPH and the Noctilux-M 50 mm f/1.2 ASPH. Leveraging Leica’s proprietary image processing engine, which incorporates machine learning and computer-aided photography, these lens simulations deliver the signature Leica bokeh effect and other unique visual elements. Now, iPhone users can emulate the legendary aesthetic of Leica M lenses, achieving professional-grade photos directly from their smartphones.

Dive into the World of Leica Looks

Leica LUX features Leica’s advanced color science to provide a variety of color gradations and film presets that mimic those of Leica cameras. Users can choose from options like Leica Classic, Leica Contemporary, and Leica Black-and-White. The Leica Standard Look, in particular, enhances colors and contrast more naturally than the native iPhone camera app. Each preset is meticulously developed to add depth and character to images, allowing photographers to explore powerful artistic expressions, rich textures, and impressive nuances.

Creative Freedom and Professional Controls

Designed for both seasoned photographers and enthusiastic amateurs, Leica LUX offers an intuitive automatic mode and extensive manual controls. Users can adjust parameters such as exposure compensation and shutter speed, ensuring each photo reflects their personal vision. The app is regularly updated with new Leica lens profiles, looks, and functions, providing continuous enhancements and new creative opportunities.

Strategic Acquisition: Leica Camera AG Acquires Fjorden Electra AS

In a strategic move to enhance the development of Leica LUX, Leica Camera AG acquired Norwegian company Fjorden Electra AS on December 1, 2023. Fjorden Electra’s expertise in app development and smartphone accessories complements Leica’s prowess in image processing and imaging quality. This collaboration aims to expand Leica’s footprint in the Mobile Business segment.

Pricing and Availability

Leica LUX is available as a ‘Freemium’ model. The free version includes Automatic Photo mode, Aperture mode, and emulation of the Leica Summilux-M 28 mm f/1.4 ASPH lens, along with five Leica Looks. For more advanced features, Leica LUX Pro is available starting at S$9.90 per month. This premium version offers manual controls for exposure, focus, and white balance, access to a growing library of 11 Leica Looks and five Leica lenses, exclusive content, and special events.
