Goodman Open House @ Goodman Arts Centre Returns with Exciting New Line-Up

The annual Goodman Open House @ Goodman Arts Centre, organized by Arts House Limited (AHL), is back and bigger than ever. This year’s event, taking place on 22 June from 10am to 10pm, promises a day filled with enriching art activities, open studios, workshops, performances, and, for the first time, an outdoor cinema experience.

A Day of Artistic Exploration and Nighttime Entertainment

Curated by Kamini Ramachandran, Director of Moonshadow Stories and The Storytelling Centre Ltd, the Goodman Open House 2024 aims to showcase the artistic talents of Goodman Arts Centre’s tenants. Visitors are encouraged to engage in the creative process alongside the artists, culminating in a vibrant celebration of the local arts community.

The day’s activities include workshops, performances, and open studios suitable for all ages. The new outdoor cinema program, “Movie Night in the Garden,” will feature a screening of the blockbuster film Barbie in the amphitheatre. Visitors can enjoy freshly grilled satay from live BBQ stations, grab a drink, and soak in the relaxed evening atmosphere.

Interactive Activities and Performances for All Ages

The Goodman Open House offers a diverse lineup of activities across performing and visual arts. Highlights include:

  • Community Drum Circle: Led by the Ministry of Bellz at the amphitheatre, inviting up to 100 participants to create music together.
  • Artist Parade: A lively procession across the Arts Centre, followed by a meditative outdoor sound bath session, Nature’s Resonance, by artist-tenant Neil Chua.
  • Healing Harmonies Workshop: Introduces children aged 4 and above to soothing sounds using singing bowls and other instruments.
  • Monster Magic Workshop: Conducted by Checkpoint Theatre, where young artists can engage in clay moulding and storytelling.

Engaging Young Minds and Promoting Sustainability

The event also focuses on nurturing young talents and promoting environmental mindfulness. Workshops include:

  • Patterns of Nature Drawing Workshop: Led by Khairulddin Wahab, encouraging participants to draw inspiration from natural patterns.
  • Fermented Clothing Workshop: Conducted by Felix Nai, teaching the ancient art of natural indigo dyeing.
  • Art Flow Journaling Workshop: Guided by Valerie Ng, helping participants document their observations and reflections in handmade journals.

Celebrating Community and Collaboration

A key feature of the Goodman Open House is the Open Studios, offering a rare glimpse into the intimate working spaces of over 66 participating artists and arts groups. Highlights include:

  • Urban Art Jam: Visitors can contribute to a graffiti wall mural at DPLMT.
  • Cloud Lantern Installation: By Leo Liu, where visitors can add personalized wishes to the artwork.

This year also marks a new partnership with the Mountbatten community, focusing on community engagement and environmental awareness at the Goodman Community Farm.

In an unexpected twist, Body Fit Training (BFT), a tenant of Singapore’s largest arts enclave, will also participate, extending their gym hours and offering drop-in fitness activities.

Join the Celebration

Goodman Open House @ Goodman Arts Centre promises a day of creativity, community, and fun for everyone. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just looking for a unique way to spend the day, there’s something for everyone.
