From Artisanal Udon to Wagyu Ramen: Five Brand New F&B Concepts to Try at the New Guoco Midtown

Guoco Midtown, the latest integrated mixed-use development by GuocoLand, is now open and the unique F&B concepts setting up shop there are a welcome addition to the culinary scene in Singapore’s midtown area.

Boasting innovative businesses and lifestyle concepts, the development sprawls over 3.2 hectares of prime land and is connected to the Bugis MRT interchange station. Designed as a ‘City of the Future’ with sustainability at its core, Guoco Midtown aims to attract a diverse community of companies, talents, residents, and visitors, redefining the vicinity as an exciting hub of business, lifestyle, culture, and heritage.

Among its attractions are three retail clusters: Midtown Square, Midtown Market, and Midtown House, each offering unique retail experiences. At the heart of Midtown Market lies a culinary haven, featuring five brand new F&B establishments, poised to tantalise the taste buds of patrons.

We were invited to a media food trail to try out the five new concepts and found all them refreshing, each offering something new and diffentiated, ranging from artisanal udon to wagyu broth ramen to a halal Asian fusion cafe.

1. Umai Artisanal Udon Bar

Step into the world of handcrafted udon from various prefectures in Japan. Umai invites customers to savour the art of udon, with dishes like their signature Miso Carbonara and Himokawa Udon with Niku Shabu.

Umai is presented by the same team behind modern Japanese restaurant chain, Omote, and is the first artisanal bar concept in Singapore that features four different cuts of udon to choose from, each originating from a different Japanese prefecture.

This was one of our favourites among the five and the Miso Carbonara is a must-try for its strong flavours and chewy udon texture.

Miso Carbonara ($19) – 72-Hour Slow-cooked Black Pork, Applewood Smoked Bacon & Duck, Aged Pecorino Romano Cheese, Crème de Parmesan
Himokawa Udon with Niku Shabu (Cold) ($18) – Himokawa Udon paired with a Gunma signature specialty rakkayaki peanut sauce dip or served in a hearty beef soup.

Mirai Robatayaki & Sushi Restaurant

Offering traditional robatayaki and sushi made with seasonal ingredients air-flown from Japan, Mirai is going for a more upmarket segment with a higher price point. Indulge in gourmet dishes like their Air-flown Yaki Zakana and A5 Wagyu Steak, each presented with the freshest seasonal ingredients available.

They are currently running drinks promotion till 30 June, 2024, with red or white wine going at 2 glasses for $20; and draft beer going at 2 for $16 for 330ml or 2 for $23 for 500ml.

Mashi No Mashi

Mashi no Mashi wagyu ramen

Led by Chef Hisato Hamada, founder of WAGYUMAFIA, this establishment brings champion-grade cuts and unparalleled culinary experiences to Southeast Asia with the grand opening of its first Mashi No Mashi store in Singapore.

Renowned for serving the world’s first 100% wagyu ramen, Mashi No Mashi Singapore features Singapore exclusive dishes, inspired by the rich and diverse flavours of the country’s vibrant street food culture along with brand new menu offerings and fan-favourite signatures including Ultra Wagyu Ramen and Wagyu Tsukemen.

This was another of our favourites and is must-try for wagyu beef and meat lovers.

Wagyu Tsukeman ($30) – slow-cooked Ozaki beef draped over Mashi No Mashi signature whole wheat noodles and served with a 34-hour stewed wagyu bone broth for dipping, complemented by bamboo shoots, cabbage and a soft-boiled egg.
Wagyu Cha Siu Donburi ($32) – seared, thin-sliced Ozaki beef enveloping a bed of hot ginger beef Akitakomachi rice topped with a rich Japanese egg yolk.
Side dishes such as Wagyu Gyoza, Wagyu siew mai and braised briskets.

Summer Folks Café & Steakhouse

A new halal concept by The Royals Cafe & Steakhouse, offering local and western brunch dishes by day, and a cozy steakhouse experience by night.

Highlights include both Asian and western dishes like their signature Nyonya Mee Siam and Wagyu Flank respectively.

Signature Nyonya Mee Siam ($14.80) – signature mee siam with gravy from the restaurant’s parent company, The Royals.
Wagyu Flank ($38.80) – Austige, North Queensland, Australian steak (300 days grain fed, MB 6-7), cooked over charcoal.
