The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is excited to unveil its inaugural showcase of art collections from local schools, titled “Treasures of Our Schools: From Cheong Soo Pieng to Lim Tze Peng.” This exceptional exhibition features rare and significant art pieces from Catholic High School, Chung Cheng High School, Dunman High School, Hwa Chong Institution, and Nanyang Girls’ High School.
The launch event, held on May 31, was graced by Minister of State for Education and Manpower, Ms. Gan Siow Huang. Student docents from the participating schools guided Ms. Gan and other guests through the diverse art styles of the exhibited works.
For the first time, works by celebrated artists such as Chen Wen Hsi, Liu Kang, Chen Chong Swee, Chua Ek Kay, and Ho Ho Ying—who were distinguished alumni and teachers from these schools—are being exhibited together. The exhibition also includes pieces gifted by prominent overseas artists like Liu Haisu, who visited these schools.
From Cheong Soo Pieng’s oil paintings to Lim Tze Peng’s ink works, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to appreciate the unique styles of these artists and the evolution of Singaporean art from the 1950s to the present day. The collection showcases a wide array of art forms, including oil paintings, ink paintings, and calligraphy.
