Singapore Cable Car Launches World’s First SkyOrb Cabins

Singapore Cable Car has unveiled a new addition to its fleet with the world’s first SkyOrb Cabins with glass-bottomed floors and a futuristic spherical shape from the outside:

Earlier in March, a launch ceremony, presided over by Ms Grace Fu, Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, occurred at Mount Faber Peak as part of the Singapore Cable Car’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

My son Asher and I took a ride in a SkyOrb cabin for the first time last evening:

These futuristic looking SkyOrb Cabins, feature a sleek chrome-finished spherical design, a departure from conventional cable car aesthetics.

The SkyOrb Cabins, exclusively crafted for the Singapore Cable Car, boast a host of innovative features, with the glass-bottomed floors being one of the key highlights. These allow guests to view the scenery below our feet, offering an elevated journey with a stunning panoramic view of the Singapore skyline.

During our ride, it was interesting to see the flow of motor traffic and cruise ships beneath our feet as the cable car moved along. We highly recommend going for the SkyOrb ride before the sun goes down as the harsh ceiling light in the cabin will cause a reflection when it is dark, making it harder to view through the glass bottom. The experience will hence be more optimal when natural sunlight is available.

Nonetheless, as night falls, the cabins are enveloped in a mesmerising ring of lights, creating a futuristic ambiance from the outside. It is a pretty sight to gawk at.

Thoughtfully designed with enhanced air ventilation, the SkyOrb Cabins feature double window louvres at the front and triple window louvres at the rear, to provide maximum comfort for passengers.

To offer an exclusive experience, only seven SkyOrb Cabins will join the existing fleet.

Collaboratively designed between Mount Faber Leisure Group and their long-time partner, renowned cable car cabin manufacturer CWA, the SkyOrb Cabins signify a milestone for both entities around innovation and creating unique experiences for guests. Based in Olten, Switzerland, CWA has enjoyed a longstanding partnership with Mount Faber Leisure Group since the inception of the Singapore Cable Car cabins in 1974.

Ticketing and Availability

The SkyOrb Cabins are now available for guests to experience, with tickets on sale at the Singapore Cable Car Mount Faber and Sentosa Station ticketing counters.

Passengers holding Mount Faber Line and Cable Car Sky Pass tickets can upgrade one leg of their journey to a SkyOrb Cabin experience for $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends and public holidays.
