This timeless folktale, renowned for its heartwarming narrative of courage and compassion, follows the journey of village boy Ma Liang as he battles against the greed of the Magistrate. Through Ma Liang’s adventures, young audiences will learn valuable lessons in kindness, selflessness, and the transformative power of generosity.

At the heart of the story lies Ma Liang, a young boy with a passion for drawing but limited by his family’s financial constraints. His life takes a magical turn when he receives a paintbrush in his dreams, capable of bringing his drawings to life, on the condition that he uses it to aid others. Mandarin Magic: Gateway’s Debut Mandarin Theatre Premiere

“The Magic Paintbrush” offers a captivating experience delivered entirely in Mandarin, providing a unique opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the language and culture. Ideal for parents seeking to enrich their children’s Mandarin proficiency, the production serves as both an educational and entertaining platform.

Set to be staged at Gateway Theatre’s Black Box, the 45-minute performance will welcome both school groups and the public on designated dates. Embracing inclusivity, the production has been designed as a relaxed performance, catering to neurodivergent individuals, including those on the autism spectrum. Additional comfort will be provided with a designated calm room, ensuring a supportive environment for all attendees.
