Commemorating the 82nd anniversary of the Fall of Singapore, this year’s program promises a captivating array of activities designed to shed light on significant sites and stories from World War II.
From February 17th to March 3rd, 2024, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of special access programs, including guided tours, theatrical experiences, talks, film screenings, and exhibitions. Explore sites that bear witness to pivotal moments in history, including those that saw the first landings of Japanese forces and the bunker where the decision to surrender was made.
One of the highlights of this year’s Battle for Singapore is the Cycling Buona Vista tours, led by esteemed historian Dr. John Kwok and heritage researcher Mr. Lee Kok Leong. Cyclists will trace the final battles for Singapore along the Buona Vista defense line, gaining insights into the strategies employed by both Japanese invaders and Allied defenders.
Delve deeper into Singapore’s wartime narrative with tours to Cashin House at Lim Chu Kang Nature Park. Perched on a pier overlooking the Johor Strait, this site witnessed some of the earliest Japanese landings during the invasion. Gain exclusive access to this historically significant location through specially curated programs by the National Parks Board.
In collaboration with NHB’s Museum Roundtable (MR) members, Battle for Singapore offers a diverse range of programs catering to various interests. From immersive theatrical experiences to food-related programs at the National Museum of Singapore, there’s something for everyone to explore.
The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) joins the fray with artist tours and conversations centered around thought-provoking installations that delve into the complex historical backdrop of the 1940s.
