If you love solving mysteries and watching theatrical performances, “Crack The Case: Mind Hunter (Mind Hunter)” is just the show for you to watch.
Singapore homegrown theatre company, Sight Lines Entertainment recently launched an immersive live mystery theatre experience, “Crack the Case: Mind Hunter” and tickets are now on sale. This unique production invites participants to enter the mind of a psychopath, solving a live murder mystery in a heritage house transformed for an unforgettable journey.
I caught the opening night performance with my son, Asher, and we had a lot of fun collecting clues to crack the case, while immersing ourselves into the theatrical performances by the stellar cast.
Designed to cater to a diverse audience, from adrenaline seekers to hardcore mystery enthusiasts and families ready for a collective challenge, Mind Hunter blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Each decision made carries real consequences in this groundbreaking blend of storytelling and interactive theatre.
Set in a historical heritage house, the production unfolds in 5 multisensory galleries, allowing audiences to explore scenes non-linearly as the story evolves around them.
Right from the start of the show, you can choose entirely how you would like to explore the house, which sequence to visit each of the scenes and which of the characters to follow around as they roam from one scene to the next, sometimes evolving into mini skits.
The use of mobile phones and the internet are encouraged for participants to snap photos to exchange clues and also to search for items in an attempt to crack the case faster. Asher was super into these and he was taking notes and looking up stuff on his mobile browser throughout the night as we zipped from one scene to the next.
“Crack the Case: Mind Hunter was conceived from a desire to revolutionise the way we experience live entertainment.” Shared Derrick Chew, the producer of Sight Lines Entertainment.
“We envisioned an immersive journey that not only thrills and entertains but one with solid storytelling, playing on our theatre-making and dramaturgical strengths as a theatre company. This production represents our commitment to pushing boundaries and redefining the very essence of interactive theatre.” He added.
At the end of the show, participants gather in pre-determined groups for a group discussion to present how we would each like to solve the case. Asher is usually shy with strangers, but he was so engrossed with solving the mystery that I found him interacting on his own, without my prompting with the other group members to discuss the case.
Mind Hunter offers a unique live interactive mystery experience, actively engaging the audience in unexpected twists and turns, connecting with characters through puzzles and clues. It provides a complete sensory experience, challenging participants to crack the case.
Created by Krish Natarajan, co-owner of Strawberries Inc, a creative studio, the production takes a departure from traditional theatre etiquette.
“The experience isn’t just a performance; it’s a dark journey into the depths of human nature which beckons the important question: is evil an inherent trait, ingrained at birth, or a byproduct of our environment and upbringing?” Shared the director and writer of Mind Hunter, Natarajan.
The experience is rated G and does not contain horror, gore, or blood, although themes of family tragedy, murder, and revenge are explored, with some mild profanities thrown in. Each show can accommodate 60 participants, allowing for both individual and group experiences.
Go for it if solving mystery is your kind of thing!
VIP tickets are available at SGD$98, offering a secret pre-show prelude, a meet-the-characters session, access to the VIP area, a seat during selected scenes, and an exclusive VIP take-home prop to enhance the mystery-solving experience. Standard tickets are priced at SG$68 and can be purchased via the official website.
