Booking.com’s latest Travel Predictions for 2024 reveal a significant shift in the way people view and experience travel. According to their research, four out of five Singapore-based travelers (82%) believe that they feel more alive during vacations, and over half (64%) consider themselves the best version of themselves while traveling. This transformation is also accompanied by the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in travel planning, making way for more soul-stirring experiences.

In a fast-paced world, travelers are seeking trips to reconnect with the life they desire. This new era of sleep tourism introduces sleep concierges and cutting-edge technology to cater to the 67% of Singapore-based travelers who plan to prioritize uninterrupted rest in 2024. Some solo travelers (40%) are even open to matchmaking holidays, while others (34%) opt for heartbreak holidays to heal after a breakup. Parents are not left out, with the majority (55%) planning solo getaways to prioritize their vitality.
Travelers in 2024 crave the element of surprise and are open to venturing into uncharted territory. More than half (54%) of Singapore-based travelers are eager to book surprise trips where the destination remains a secret until arrival. These “surrender seekers” are embracing spontaneity, with the majority (55%) preferring to leave their plans open-ended. Additionally, 28% are even willing to travel with strangers. The travel industry is adapting with flexible tech-enabled services, offering options to cancel, change plans, and pay later with ease. AI is also playing a significant role, with 53% of Singapore-based travelers trusting AI to plan their trips.
Amid the cost of living crisis, travelers in 2024 are turning to money-saving strategies while upgrading their vacations with AI’s assistance. A majority (62%) of Singapore-based travelers seek advice and tips from AI to enhance their experiences with suggested ancillaries and deals. Additionally, over half (60%) plan to choose destinations where the cost of living is lower than their hometown, and many (46%) are willing to pay for day passes to access amenities at five-star hotels.
Food lovers in 2024 will delve into the roots of cuisine on their vacations, showing a deep interest in learning about the origins of a destination’s must-try dishes (72%). Four out of five (80%) aim to explore indigenous cuisines. Foodies are becoming experientialists, with nearly half (49%) seeking immersive “phygital” food experiences enhanced by VR or AR, creating a multisensory dining adventure.
Travelers are now seeking accommodation that combines aesthetics and environmental responsibility. Over half (56%) look for accommodations that feature sustainability innovations, and 70% want indoor spaces that connect with the outdoors. Travelers are keen on sustainable travel apps that offer rewards (57%), such as unique experiences with locals in less-traveled areas (55%) and access to remote locations that typical tourists cannot reach (50%).
Climate change is affecting travel plans, with 56% of Singapore-based travelers expecting it to influence their vacation choices. As local temperatures rise, 67% plan to use their vacations to cool down in other destinations. Water-centric vacations are gaining popularity (29%), with travelers exploring water-based wellness activities and underwater accommodations to beat the heat.
In 2024, travelers are embracing alter egos on vacation. More than a third (42%) of Singapore-based travelers enjoy creating stories about their real lives to share with fellow travelers. They revel in the thrill of reinventing themselves, with nearly three-quarters (73%) relishing the anonymity of travel and the opportunity to be someone new. Over half (64%) feel like the main character of their own story when traveling, empowered to take the lead in their adventures.
