[French food in Seletar] Au Balcon at The Summerhouse, offers dinner exclusive wagyu striploin and iberico pork

Previously known as the French Dining Room, Au Balcon, is a fresh take on classic French flavours. It is a rustic and cosy enclave on the second level of The Summerhouse, located within Seletar Aerospace Park. The updated dinner menu offers both a la carte and communal-style service ($78/pax) for larger groups.

Entree

Starting off with an elevated classic, the Nicoise Salad ($28). Being seafood-based, it highlights the smokey, tender octopus legs. The char adds to the umami from the octopus and the kelong tiger prawns, making it a refreshing entree.

Another for the seafood lovers, the seared Atlantic Scallop ($24). The romesco sauce with capers does wonders for the succulent scallops. The bell peppers in the sauce are roasted which enhances the sauce and brings out the sweetness of the dish.

If you love soft, yolky eggs, the Florentine 65 Organic Egg ($18) is the perfect choice. After all, who doesn’t love a creamy yolk with truffle and shaved pecorino?

Pluma Iberico ($48) is a must try if you’re looking for something other than beef. The Inka-grilled Iberico definitely gives the wagyu striploin a run for its money.

Showcasing ingenious flavour combinations is the apple celeriac puree’s sweet acidity. It adds an extra punch to the pork, making it something I would definitely have again.

Nonetheless, you can’t really say no to a prime cut of wagyu, can you? The Wagyu Striploin ($98) is charcoal-grilled, giving it an addictive, smoky aroma. I don’t indulge in beef often, but this cut of meat had me going for seconds and thirds!

Not into meat? Try the Kuhlbarra Barramundi ($36)! With an umami rich crustacean reduction paired with the tender barramundi, every bite is a juicy and flavourful one.

Dessert

It’s not a proper Fench meal without dessert, and Paris Brest ($16) is a quintessential choice. Layers of velvety praline diplomat between choux pastry is every hazelnut lover’s dream. The satisfaction from the caramelised sweetness of the praline is the perfect way to end off your meal.

Taking a spin on a classic, the Citrus Crème brûlée ($16) was creamy yet refreshing. I loved how the citrus mellowed out the creaminess of the creme brulee, bringing a lightness to the dessert. It comes with a side of rich vanilla ice cream, a decadent choice if you’re looking for an indulgence.

Au Balcon also offers a weekend brunch menu featuring classics like Confit de Canard ($36) and Pan Seared Foie Gras ($32). The Summerhouse also offers more at the Wildseed Cafe and Bar as well as the Garden Domes. More information on The Summerhouse concepts can be found here.
