For various reasons, 2021 and 2022 saw the wedding industry shrink – literally. Micro weddings and boho vibes became necessary. 2023 is set to see this trend reverse, according to Insider magazine, with weddings once again becoming big and bold. One thing that won’t be returning, however, is over-the-top decorations. Larger than life cakes are out; super cinematic wedding videos, too, are being put to the side. This is because the family-orientated wedding is back in. Even if the weddings are set to be bigger, they’re likely to be more intimate, through down-to-earth style and classic simplicity – starting with the wedding band itself.
Simplicity is the key word, and one area in which it can be easy to show that, is the wedding ring itself. That’s true, whether opting for a jewel-studded option or simple precious metal bands. Celebrities are one source of inspiration, and celebrity mag PageSix.com highlights the simple wide domed platinum ring that Jennifer Lopez is wearing as part of her marriage to Ben Affleck. Platinum is, of course, an expensive option, but the look can easily be obtained with silver, white gold, or even more intriguing combinations such as the tungsten carbide bands being treasured by couples with rigorous jobs. Equally, finding gold-colored rings from the same simple tradition will bring in that family and homely vibe, something to be treasured for years to come.
What about the day itself? Actress Shen Mengchen and television host Du Haitao tied the knot in 2022 following 9 years of dating, according to the Straits Times, and wedding pictures from the big day itself show something interesting. A simple dress, simple black suit, and a simple venue – combining gardens, with a space big enough for family, clad in wood, with a simple stone exterior. Classy, but also understated, and completely tying in with the idea that a wedding should be about families, rather than a huge, over-the-top celebration in which the aim is to fit in as many different elements as possible.
Weddings always come to a head with drinking, dancing, and revelry – often to the point where kids can no longer be included, nor elderly or non-drinking relatives. According to Brides.com, there are a few trends that are making it more possible to have a fully family friendly day at the wedding. Key among this is games – and that’s something that can bring in a more relaxed vibe for the wedding as a whole. Lawn games, a card station to leave messages, fun food such as smores, and a miniature bar where kids can have a pick of their own (non-alcoholic) drinks are all great ideas.
Making the wedding about the family will personify 2023. Rather than going for a certain look or vibe, big days that bring in the whole family and make everyone feel welcome is the key.
