There’s a new cafe in town at Jalan Riang and it is simply named as Riang.
The new casual cafe concept in the heart of Serangoon is helmed by the same folks behind the local favourite, The Brewing Ground at Joo Chiat Place.
Opening its door on 3 November, the cafe features their own local spins on brunch classics, with a focus on communal-style sharing plates for large group of friends and family to enjoy together.
We like the homely, inviting feel of the cafe, featuring rustic furniture, aceentuated by the white tiles and clean finish. It was apparent that many of the guests were from the neighbourhood, excited to try out a new eating haunt in their vicinity.
If you are an outsider like myself, fret not, there are ample parking lots available in the middle-class landed enclave.
These were the items we sampled at Riang during the dinner tasting:
The standout dish for the night was the sinful Giant Pork Crackling – I never have it served whole like this before and it is bound to be a hit for cafehoppers looking for something to post on Instagram. The portion is huge. Make sure you have a few friends to share this with if you are going to order it.
I like their Vanilla Tiger Prawns too. This comes highly recommended by the restaurant and goes very well with their homemade bread to soak up all the saucy goodness.
For cafe food, the quality is pretty good and prices are considered reasonable, ranging from ~$5 upwards for a cup of artisanal tea or coffee, ~$10 to 20 for starters, and ~$18 to $32 for mains.
Delivery options are available too.
