Whether you are a professional runner or an amateur like my son Asher and I, the Decathlon Run 2022 which took place in May welcomed everyone to participate.
The run featured various challenges that allowed participants to get active anytime and anywhere, with a community of fellow fitness enthusiasts to cheer each other on.
To get ready for this, Asher and I got ourselves a slew of brand new running gears at Decathlon, all at extremely reasonable pricing and of high sporting quality.
For shoes, I chose the Kiprun KD 800, a pair of ultra-lightweight shoes, weighing just 212g for size 8. It also comes with a solid grip and is built for running performance with speed.
Asher hates to tie laces and the Kalenji AT Support slip-on cushioned, supportive and lightweight running shoes are perfect for him.
On my own, I like to go for longer trail runs sometimes, ranging from around 10 to 20km when I am in the mood. To go on such longer runs, compression socks are good to have to reduce muscle fatigue with support.
For those who go on even longer runs, consider getting one of their many trail running water bag vests. This one I got can store a good 15 litres of water! It also comes with an emergency whistle, lots of pockets to store stuff and breathable padding for comfort.
For run wear, Decathlon offers a wide selection of running tops and bottoms that are suitable for all weather conditions, including the sweltering heat in Singapore. Below is a pair of running top and bottoms that will work well locally, tried and tested.
With all our gears ready, how was the Decathlon Run 2022 itself?
The hybrid run featured both a virtual and a physical challenge. Between 2 to 26 May, participants flagged off with a 5km Virtual Run anytime, anywhere at our own pace. Between 27 to 29 May, you get to cross the finish line with a 7km Physical Run at the Decathlon Singapore Lab in Kallang.
It has been a rather long while since Asher and I got to participate in any mass physical runs and we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I was down with Covid-19 during the period and had to give it a miss. Nonetheless, we did complete the virtual component during our regular runs.
We are still running regularly, at least once a week for Asher and at least three times a week for me. The gears from Decathlon are serving us well and we are looking forward to participating in the Decathlon Run again next year when it returns.
