The #stayhome phase during the past two years spawned many home-based kitchen as well as DIY F&B innovations. Lion Sauce Co. is one such Singapore food brand. Founded last year by F&B marketer, JD Ng, 41, the sauce is made with a recipe said to be perfected by Ng’s dad over several decades.
What started over thirty years ago as one man’s search for flavourful chilli sauce with enough fiery heat has led to the creation of Lion Sauce Co. and their Original Hot chilli sauce. A versatile condiment which balances sweetness and tanginess with fiery spiciness to wake up your taste buds.
The sauce is available in two versions at launch – Original Hot and Garlic, at S$12 per bottle or S$22 for a twin pack. You can order the sauce online from here. Delivery is available for Singapore addresses at S$5 per address.
Recently, a new premium flavour has been added – the X404 Pure Reaper. Made using only Carolina Reapers, the world’s hottest pepper, to replace the Chilli Padi, the result is a truly super duper hot chilli sauce.
We tried it for the challenge and the spiciness level is seriously hot – so hot it you will feel a burning sensation on your tongue lingering for a long while after a small drop. Priced at $38 a bottle, although it costs more than double of the Original Hot, the spiciness level is definitely more than double or even triple.
Concocted with the same signature slow building heat profile as the rest of the Lion Sauce chili sauce flavours, you will eventually feel your whole mouth burning with heat rather than a straight explosion.
To provide a more balanced note, fresh calamansi is added to give a zesty flavour, among other ingredients to differentiates it from other Reaper chili sauce out there.
