It has been a long while since Asher and I last caught a live performance. We have always love circus performances and were delighted to attend the Carnival of The Animals preview at Sands Theatre.
Performed by The Circa Ensemble, an eight-member acrobat troupe from Australia, the show is presented by Base Entertainment Asia and is making its Southeast Asia debut in Singapore.
As the name suggests, the show takes its inspiration from animals, with the acrobats attempting to embody the physicality of the animals, while including tricks such as tumbling and juggling, choreographed to the music of French composer, Cameille Saint-Saens.
With minimal props and costume changes, we were still able to identify the animals being acted out, based on the fluent, iconic movements and sounds made by the performers to mimick real-life creatures from both land and sea. For instance, I can visualise kangaroos making somersaults and seals frolicking in the water, all in rhythm and flow with the music playing.
Audience interaction is also weaved into the performance, with the performers coming off stage at some portions to interact with the audience. The whole show is 50 minutes long, just nice to leave you wanting more when the curtain falls.
Carnival of The Animals seek to whisk you away on a circus escapade and is perfect family entertainment for the family, especially for the little ones.
