[Review] Dyson V12 Detect Slim: Laser dust detection leaves no dust behind!

The Dyson V12 Detect Slim- Dyson’s latest generation of cord-free vacuum cleaners, features laser technology at the cleaner head to detect hidden dust in your home and help you suck it all up for a cleaner home.

Dyson engineers integrated a green laser diode – chosen for its ability to provide the best contrast – into the Slim Fluffy cleaner head, positioning it precisely at a 1.5 degree angle, 7.3mm off the ground. It means hidden dust on the floor surface that is otherwise invisible to the naked eye can be seen and removed.

Dyson V12 Detect Slim features three key technologies:

• Laser dust detection reveals dust particles invisible to the eye, with a precisely-angled green laser integrated into a Fluffy cleaner head – so you don’t miss a thing. (Note: Laser engineered for hard floors. Effectiveness of laser influenced by ambient light conditions, debris type and surface.)
• Acoustic Dust Sensing provides reassurance that you have deep cleaned. LCD screen shows the size and number of particles, displaying real-time scientific proof of a deep clean by counting and measuring microscopic dust particles with a piezo sensor, which automatically increases suction power across different floors types and dust amounts1.
• New anti-tangle hair screw clears hair fast. Anti-tangle conical brush bar spirals hair off and into the bin. Motor-driven cleaning for small spaces.

User Experience

Vacuuming was made really fun with the laser! A tip- to fully exploit the laser function, switch off all lights and draw all curtains; the darker it is, the better hidden dust is revealed by the green laser light. Clean freaks will love this function, you can vacuum until there is literally no single speck of dust visible. 

Housework made fun

The laser function is good for enticing kids to help vacuum too. Get them to vacuum in pitch darkness, they can role play as a special agent or superhero on a top secret mission- Operation No Dust Left Behind. 

Having tested out Dyson V11 Absolute and Dyson V8 Slim Fluffy, this latest Dyson V12 Detect Slim is my favorite. Its weight at 2.2kg is comfortable for handling, compared to Dyson V11 Absolute which weighs in at 3.05 kg. It is 0.5 kg heavier than the Dyson V8 Slim Fluffy, which is a barely noticeable increase-moreover, it more than makes up for that slight additional heft with many more functions- chief of all, the green laser.
