Homegrown brand, myFirst, saw this market gap and created their myFirst Fone series to cater specifically to children’s needs for a smart contact device with their myFirst Fone R1 music smartwatch phone and their myFirst Fone S2 smartwatch phone with call functions.

myFirst Fone R1
myFirst Fone S2

The myFirst Fone series is marketed as a range of all-in-one smartwatch phones equipped with a 2-megapixel inbuilt camera, clock, GPS, and fitness tracker.

Useful safety features include precise location tracking with advanced GPS, Indoor WiFi Tracking via Google System and Location Based Service, providing parents with information on their children’s whereabout.

The smartwatches come with Geo-Fencing so parents can preset safety zones for your kids by highlighting geo-locations in the iOS or Android app. In addition, they also come with a SOS alert that can send distress signals with an integrated SOS button. Parents will receive an emergency location notification alert with a live 30s recording of surrounding sounds if the child is in danger or lost.

More than just a watch, myFirst Fone functions exactly like a phone, helping parents to stay in touch with their children via voice or video call.

For parents who are concerned with smartphones being a distraction, myFirst Fone series is installed with a Class Mode where the device can work like a regular watch during school hours by having certain features such as phone calling and texting locked. The SOS button can still be triggered during this period. These can all be customised on the myFirst Fone mobile application which is compatible with iOS and Android mobile devices.

Asher and I have been spending a lot of time exercising outdoor since the start of the pandemic. This include activities like swimming, jogging and cycling. For the latter, I am always worried about him getting lost when he lags behind. The smartwatch/phone solution from myFirst Fone addresses this concern, now that I am able to track his location via GPS.

It totally make sense because even if he had a phone to call me, he would not be able to accurately describe his location and a smartwatch/phone that can share his GPS location with me is the best solution.

The tracking feature aside, Asher found the myFirst Fone R1 to be fun, using it to listen to music and track his daily steps while jogging and also to take photos and videos.

If there is one thing I dislike about the device, as with most other fitness trackers and smartwatches, the device comes with a unique charging head. This would mean that you would only be able able to purchase a new one from only myFirst if you misplace your one charging cable or can’t find it.
