Viral video of the Bukit Batok bus accident surfaced, showing the moment the bus broke a barrier and fell, almost crushing a man who fell out of the initial impact of the accident.
The video below showed the moment the bus burst onto the scene, falling 2 meters from the incline above to land on its side. Out of that suspended wreckage, a man in an orange vest and scarlet shirt was almost crushed if it not for how the tail end of the bus was still on the ramp, and that it landed just a few feet away from him. Reports said that the man’s attire looked like a transport company’s uniform.
The bus then bounced and lay ominously on its side.
Viewers could see the man lying on the ground next to the overturned bus, with the person taking the video talking to him. People then began to converge on the bus, while the man remained in his position on the ground, no one going near him–possibly because the people in charge or responding had not seen him yet.
Part of the broken barricade laid dangerously across the injured man’s head.
According to SBS Transit, who employed the injured man, he was still in the hospital with his injuries being treated.
Their statement on the man said, “Our Bus Captain who was standing on the pavement was hurt by one of the buses. He remains warded at the hospital. We are in close contact with his family and are rendering all assistance,” senior communications vice president Tammy Tan said.

While investigations are ongoing, fourteen people were said to have sustained injuries from the accident.
The accident happened at 5:02 in the afternoon of July 11, when the first bus was making a turn in the interchange, and collided with the second bus entering the interchange–which broke the barrier and fell below the ramp.
The Singapore Defence Force responded to the incident, and published a Facebook post.
“Upon SCDF’s arrival, a passenger bus was found lying on its side. Eight persons were inside the bus while another nine were found outside the bus. The rear windscreen of the bus which had shattered served as an entry point for SCDF rescuers.
“The rescuers created an additional point of entry at the front of the bus by using an electrical saw to cut through the front windscreen. Once inside, rescue equipment were used to cut several poles off so as to create space for the casualties to be rescued safely,” it said.
The company further said, “Staff and management were on site to assist the SCDF in attending to the injured and were present at the hospital to provide further support.”
“We apologise to all our passengers who were involved in this unfortunate accident and those who may have been inconvenienced by it. We have reached out to the injured passengers and are actively providing assistance,” their spokesman added.
