Planning an RV Vacation

Recreational vehicles are a great way to see more of the country while traveling. Recreational vehicles allow you to travel comfortably for long distances. Because they typically have bedrooms, bathrooms, and other comforts of home, you will not need to book hotel or motel rooms in order to have a bed to sleep in while traveling. RV vacations are a great option for people who are interested in the RV lifestyle but do not want to pursue it full time immediately.

Step 1:

Choose your trip destination or destinations, as well as your major pit stops. If you are not experienced with RV travel, it may be best to plan for a shorter trip to a closer destination within a couple hundred miles. More advanced RV travelers may plan for multiple destinations and pit stops across a wide distance.

Step 2:

Find all of your RV parking areas and camp sites that you will use for the trip. There are a variety of websites and apps (both free and paid) that you can utilize to find free and low costs parking spots for your RV. Areas that are more scenic or that have more amenities can be more expensive. For new or inexperienced travelers, though, these still may be preferable.

Note: The full time RV travel lifestyle may not be for everyone, but anyone can enjoy an RV vacation if they plan for it right. If you want to know more about RV travel, you can find more information over at sites like RV Beginner.

Step 3:

Make sure that your RV is up to date as far as maintenance goes. You will want to create a checklist for this process and complete it thoroughly and completely. Get an oil change if needed. Make sure that you have air in your tires. If any check engine or maintenance lights are on, see a professional for help before hitting the road.

Step 4:

Choose attractions along the way that are RV friendly. Some attractions offer added benefits while others are less RV friendly. You will want to research the type of parking that potential destinations and attractions offer. You will also want to check parking space sizes and vehicle height clearances.

Step 5:

Find a house sitter, pet sitter, or any other necessary service provider. Your RV has lots of the comforts of home, but you cannot neglect your home while traveling in your RV. You may want to ask a friend, family member, or trusted neighbor to water your plants or feed and walk your pets. If you cannot find someone to do this, you can also pay a professional. Some plants or pets can even travel with you in your RV if you do not want to use a house sitter or pet sitter.

Step 6:

Pack for the trip. When traveling in your RV, you can pack whatever you would like. This is a major benefit to traveling by RV over traveling by plane or bus. Full size toiletries and food items are completely okay to bring with you in your RV. There is no need to stock up on travel sized items when you utilize this method of travel.
